Just wanted to share this, I’m sure many of you already know the power and difference but if it enlightens one person then cool.
Turns out even stock humbuckers can sound much better if you tweak with and find the perfect balance of pickup height and pole height. After putting flatwounds on my Epiphone 335 I started to notice that the sound unplugged was amazing but plugged in sounded muffled and underwater on the neck. I did the whole “lollar” YouTube dive but thought there has to be a better $$$$ way. Then I stumbled on some threads about lowering the pickup and raising the poles to cut mud and increase clarity. Turns out the poles are very adjustable sound wise and you can pretty much dial in just like a eq how they sound per string.
Long story short I’m really loving the result and suggest giving it a try before swapping pickups. Not to say I won’t order the lollars down the road. But this tweak bought me a few months… hopefully.
