I still use one of my first builds and every time I power it up I vow to shove another resistor in there. You cannot possibly see the knob positions looking directly at it. Lazy man's problem fo' sho'. (y)

Fig's right, if you can't see the knobs, then it's too &%#$ bright.
If it's an LED I haven't used before, then a quick audition on the breadboard is in order. I usually end up with 10K - 22K, depending on the LED. When I use UV LEDs, then I have to go down to 1.5K to get enough brightness. And a nice tan.

I've not paid much attention to it with pedalPCB builds, honestly. I have been using clear green super brights with the standard clr which makes it a bit brighter than red but not blindingly so, so I'm alright with it.

I haven't completed one yet, but I have a couple of builds where I have used the Trimmit breakout with a 20k trimpot on the PCB to allow me to use whichever color I want and adjust the brightness. I have too many damn pedals in progress.

I typically use at least a 12k on mine. I’m just gonna get a panel of PCB’s with a trimmer made. I did put a set of test sockets on my tested MF box to see the brightness before I’ve soldered everything up.

Make sure you add a bump resistor so the led cant blow at the trimmer extreme.

For yellow 3mm I use 1.5k

For ultra-bright 5mm clear LEDs I usually use a 2.7k resistor. Y’all are talking about 33k? Maybe my definition of too bright is a bit different from all of you hahah

This is fine.

I use resistors in the 10 -15K range, depending. Outdoor gigs are pretty rare for me, even before Covid. Sitting in my gloomy room, I don't want or need little frikkin' lasers trying to blind me. A gentle glow is fine, if I ever need sunny day level LEDs I'll worry about it then. As I recall it my last outdoor gig I used a pedal or two and didn't have an issue.

I've said it before, never know when you might need a flashlight on a dark stage
