Tbh the chance to get those is so low that I would suggest just ignoring it completely, stuff like that really messes up the part of your brain that calculates value for stuff. You will not get the golden pin.
...buuuut I went for one even outside that. I've never seen a Chase Bliss pedal for sale under 300€ used (I follow all the second hand pedal sales on the biggest second hand music site in Finland just to keep an eye on prices or any great deals) here. So worst comes to worst and I just can't find any use for what I get, I can probably sell it for what I paid. At best, I'll get a really nice pedal for a big discount. Plus I don't mind that it ships in January, it gives me something to look forward to through the darkest time of the year (there's exactly 5 hours of "sunlight" in here at worst during December, and what is there is usually weak and dim), that's always a bonus.
For real.
So they've got like, 250 of the special, mystery-box only pedal.
So we know that they were planning on doing at least 250 boxes.
At that number, one would have about a 2.4% chance of getting a pin.
Which isn't *nothing*, but importantly isn't very likely.
As that denominator grows, though, so does the likelihood shrink.
Id bet they were originally projecting at least 750 boxes, where the probability of getting a pin would be 0.8%. Though apparently they've had a huge response so far, pushing out shipping dates, so it might be in the 1500 range...or more. At that point, it's about 0.4%
So, in a cost/benefit sort of way, that really isn't a great investment based on that alone.
But...it's a little price break on their ungodly expensive pedals. I own one: the Lossy. It's fantastic. But also bought second hand, because holy fuck.
