What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

Over a week for me and still waiting for the shipping notice. I'll be going out of my way to avoid using them from now on.
So my order took quite awhile for them to ship as well. It took about 4 days before they actually shipped it. This is only my 2nd time ordering from them. The first time they shipped it the very next day. Maybe the sale brought in a huge volume of orders? Still your stuff should’ve been shipped by now. No excuse!

They were always very slow for me under the former management too, to the point I only used them for certain specific things I couldn't get elsewhere. I have an old friend who lives pretty near them, I might just have him go pick up next time and ship to me. As it is I'll probably come in at least two weeks late on delivering one job, but fortunately I can provide a workable but inferior loaner widget if necessary.

That’s always a solution.

One thing I will say is I can’t rely on them cause of their prices for some GE transistors. It’s a little high if you ask me.

I need to start looking at eBay when it comes to sourcing GE transistors.

On this same topic:

Just looked at my Email and seen Mouser just just sent me this.

I just checked on my last SB order, it shipped the next day. Mouser ships the same day in many cases for me, or they upgrade from FedEx 2Day to Overnight if they ship a day late. Even when they had the recent ice storm and it took like five days, they still gave me that upgrade for free. I'm usually quite patient about this stuff, this time there just happens to be someone else who has an urgent need for what I'm building her, she can't really play out without it. I get stuff from LMS delivered the next day a lot of the time, for their cheapest rate no less, so I'm pretty spoiled!

I know what you mean!

LMS and SBP are very good when it comes to shipping. I’ve never been disappointed.

Mouser just works on different level but then again from my understanding they’re a larger company.

4 billion dollars a year in sales out of a million sq ft. plant, with 3700 employees... ;)

But I can always get a sales rep on the phone there or a fast email response, and they treat me like royalty. Same for DigiKey too, although they're often just a little slower on getting back to me on special order stuff. Maybe a product of being even bigger than Mouser, or maybe because I throw a lot more cash at Mouser.

Sheesh I didn’t realize they were that big.

I never bought anything from Digikey, I figured they were similar to Mouser, in that they both are just big companies.

Epiphone Coronet, my first foray into the Gibson world. I wanted a guitar with the least amount of things in it so I can just play. Strats and Jazzmasters have way too much stuff in the way and I end up playing those instead of music.

QC is awesome compared to Fender/Squier, for a mere 350 Euros. The bridge was super high but now the action is what it's supposed to be. Probably the most effortless playing guitar I've ever had.
High gear tuners, great fret ends, rolled fretboard edges, CTS pots, the nut is not perfect but luckily the nut slots are shallow so I can lower them. They're cut wide enough already and it stays in tune with bends. The screws don't strip, a major issue I have with cheap guitars.

The only issues are minor: 1) darker than I thought in most lights; 2) the pickup is too low, the hum is loud, the output isn't. Need to order shims but I guess hum will also increase; 3) Unbelievable neck dive with a strap since the button is under the last fret. Will relocate it to the upper horn, though I don't think it'll make much of a difference; Does it? 4) some static when I touch the body and plastic.

We'll see if I can live with the hum. I guess there are hum cancelling options out there. I also have super cheap Chinese cream pikcup covers coming just for giggles.
This guitar is just great. I deepened the nut slots, I just need to take some material off the top cause now it's like the Wall in Game of thrones.
The P90 sounds really fat with tube overdrive yet it retains clarity on all strings. The hum is something else however. Way too loud. Hum cancelling P90s are very expensive, like every pickup out there. The cheapest ones are the Mojotones at 135 euros or so.

I traced the static to the plastic cover for the controls. I cleaned it with antistatic spray but no dice. Any suggestions?
I had the same issue with the pickguard in a P bass. Shielding it didn't help. I replaced it with another pickguard and that one didn't accumulate any static. Don't tell me I have to make a custom control cover. I have no router/Dremel tools.

Well, do you have a path to ground from the pickguard? Maybe that’s all you need?

I hear dryer sheets work.

It's a thing, dryer sheets, Total Thing.

During the winter months here the static is unbelievably bad — I mean, the TP clings to your butt...
So bad, so much so that I don't work with MOSFETs/related-ICs/etc even though I've got a grounding wrist-strap.
[EDIT: Just in winter, MOSFETs etc are fair game in summer]

I'm thinking of getting a grounded silicon mat on which to build my pedals.

I F#@%ING HATE IT!🤬

The plate has foil backing but the cavity is not shielded so no ground. Honestly the guitar doesn't need shielding because there's little to no noise when I don't touch the strings. I'll see if I can ground the plate though.
