What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

Nnnnoooo!

Y'all ok with me not doing gut shots until these are gone? It's been a long time since I pulled this move. "I'm always running out of 100nf, better double the order."

I've been porting more and more of my own board layouts back to SMD 100nF bypass caps lately. Dirt cheap on eBay by the hundred and much easier to work into my often cramped for space designs.

Hello all, been laying low for a spell, dealing with a few of life’s curve-balls.

However, thanks to @mjh36, I’ve received rays of light to show me the way back out of the collapsing tunnel — check ‘m out!

Who knew a 1550N was so huge!?
Like a giant pedal-buider’s Matryoshka doll, too…

Yes, all those enclosures were in the 1550N — incredible!

Mjh36 called the day it arrived, we had a good chat. Cannot thank him enough.

I’ll be back, soon, like the Terminator and try and catch up…

got a good one going on the other night and decided my whetstone phaser was too big for the pedalboard ... went to sweetwater and bought something even more ridiculous as b-stock for $99 (corner of the box got nicked, never even got opened). I'd have gut shots but I gave up after the 14th removed screw didn't crack it open.

Man, I’ve been wondering about those. How does it sound?

It's great. Not "throw everything off the board and make room for the 800 lb gorilla" great, but better than any other $99 dollar phaser that I can think of.

BUT for the sake of finding fault during the honeymoon let's get nit-picky for a moment and we'll sandwich the negative with some more positive at the end.

There's no adjusting the fast mode lfo rate, only slow mode.

It weighs a ton, is physically the largest pedal I've owned (and that includes the Orange Bax Bangeetar), and doesn't look like it will fit onto my holyboard even if I wanted it to.

On the other hand, that slow/fast button ramps up (I can't recall if it ramps down) and it's fun to play with.

I apologize for the giant picture but I figured the curious would want to be able to zoom in. I do not apologize for the poor lighting, my engineer's lamp sets a serial killer vibe to my pics that I refuse to abandon.
Obviously the size is a setback to DIY ... the 8 matched jfets (2sk30) would keep some at bay as well but near as I can tell there's no magic dust or fairy wings within. Someone right now wants this in a 125B and they are wrong.

Got a new guitar kit as an early Father's Day present. Thinline Tele with Bigsby style trem. My first guitar with humbuckers. I am thinking it'll be a bright red.

To get it over the line for free shipping, I also got a 3-ply pickguard blank (b/w/b) that was originally going to replace the white, but not sure what that would look like with the white top binding. I may fill the holes and forego a pickguard. Part of the blank will get used for a truss rod cover on my 5-string bass kit. Just need to finish designing a logo to engrave in it first.

Only thing that appears off is the oil they must have lubed the truss rod with is out onto the headstock and behind the nut on the fretboard. Hopefully that doesn't screw me when finishing it.

A little package for me today:

I haven’t used flux in years, and haven’t replaced my iron tip for longer than that. I’m having some trouble with my SoB build and I hope I just need to reflow the smd transistors.
I’ve found that flux is the SMT secret to success. I use a liquid flux in a needle applicator bottle. I spot each of the pads before putting the part in place. The solder just jumps over to the pads and parts as I move the tip nearby. After struggling for a bit, this seemed like magic to me.
