Why is it i can get $100 of hardware sent from Thailand for $20 and have it as a pre paid tax service. And get it within a week!
Yet when I order $100 of hardware from the USA I pay $40 shipping and get royally shafted with import tax and all the other BS that the carrier claims to need
I don't have an answer, but I have wondered if something is different about Thailand. I'm in the US but if I get a PCB order from China that's over $750 I get slapped with customs duties, yet I've had Tayda orders as high as $1200 before and no import duties on those. Also even my huge Tayda orders are typically $20-30 shipping for DHL express, but for my PCB orders I consistently get $50-100 shipping charges for things that are smaller and lighter.

This could be explained if there was a trade war going on between the US and China right now… oh wait…

That doesn't completely explain it though, the rule is fireign goods over $750 get import duties, period, not just goods from China. Why does Tayda seem to get a pass? Or do they misrepresent values on customs documents maybe?

I don’t think that’s how it works. Iirc tariffs depend on the country of origin. Plus some countries have special treaties with special rates for specific goods etc. Looking at https://wits.worldbank.org/CountryProfile/en/Country/USA/Year/2021/TradeFlow/Import it seems to me that import tariffs from China are 150% higher than from Thailand, on average. I’m not an expert so I may not be interpreting these numbers correctly but the difference between the two remains. Plus don’t you all recall Trump’s tariff war with China?

New to me guitar day. Pretty stoked for buying a squier lol. Anyways ive been wanting a p90 guitar for a minute (specifically i was looking for an sg with p90’s but hadnt seen one hit the used market locally at a price i could justify). Ive also been looking for a tele “project”. Then last night as i do my routine faceboom market place browsing. Theres this anomally

While it doesn’t quite tickle the tele itch (beyond the body and headstock shape theres nothing really tele about it). But it does hit my p90 and project guitar wants. Going to go through give it a much needed set up and see how i bond with it before i decide how crazy to go parts caster style with it. But a project is always fun :) And i never have paid any attention to squires i had no idea these were a thing and the dude took a magnetron i had laying around for partial trade!

That looks sweet! I'd definitely check one of those out if one came up locally. I have a p90 shaped hole in my life, and big-budget guitars aren't really my thing, so that's right up my alley. I'm interested to hear how you like it after you get it set up and spend some time with it.

A motherlode, that's what! Bought a lot of divided up values of @jwin615 's silver mica hoard.

He also sent along some other goodies, like these NOS Delco transistors. Carefully opened one of them to show off the packaging

Passed some light through it, and the manila envelope has the mounting hardware on it. Also hard to capture on camera is a little shield for mounting.

All in all, a good day.

@jwin615 what’s going on here with the silver mica assortment?
I bought a ton of them and divided them up. 7 pounds total, IIRC. Around 30 values from 5pf to 680pf +1100pf. ~1200 pieces per lot, IIRC. I'll have 3 more lots for sale here in a couple of weeks. Waiting until after vacation. Already divided but just too busy to fool with it and don't want anyone waiting 2 weeks for them.
Edit:proofreading matters

After just a truss rod adjustment (poor thing spent 7 hours in my truck on a 75 degree day) could for sure grow on me. Needs a more thorough set up but i just wanted to get it to where i didnt hate it lol.

Neck pick up does a pretty solid jazz thing actually so far so good. If one pops up cheap id for sure jump on it. I paid 200 and a magnetron delay i had built for mine.
