Why? [penis content]

Cynthia Plaster Caster worked with a friend who would "bring the subject to attention" then Cynthia would slap the goop on the subject's member. The soon to be immortalized rock star would have to hold it in order to make a good impression.
Jimi liked the goop so much he made love to it.

It was Frank who convinced Cynthia to display her collection.

yup. As someone who works with casting lots of things, I can only imagine how unpleasant it would be to cast -that- in plaster. takes a while for it to firm up enough for a good impression, and plaster *never* comes out of hair– due to a studio mishap, I got nearly-set plaster all over my right arm a few months ago, and it took 4 hours to painfully peel it away from my arm hair, and my arm still has bald spots where the hair was ripped out at the root.

Would have been much better to cast the stars' 'members' in alginate, and then produce the positive by casting plaster in the alginate impression. of course, I don't know what the cost and availability was of alginate in the 1960s and 70s

According to Frank Zappa, she used the same goop that dentists use to make impressions of teeth. I think it's called alginate and it had to be mixed fresh. That's what Cynthia would do while her associate got the model ready for the mold.

Yup, that’s alginate. Been a while since I read Frank’s book, so I forgot about that. Takes about 5 minutes to set instead of the ~30 minutes that plaster takes to fully set, plus it doesn’t have an exothermic reaction like plaster does. Over in the workbench thread I actually posted a few days ago a picture of the plaster casts I made of my ears using alginate.
