Expression pedals

I need an expression pedal... no bells nor whistles, just something durable and heavy, just in case I stomp it like Clapton.

Suggestions?

I've been using the moog for a long time but I do wish it was a metal enclosure. Hasn't let me down and sits taller than some others which I prefer. I'm huge and I haven't hurt it.

These are the two I'm looking at right now, mainly just because they're metal. I considered just building one out of an old wah, but meh, I'm too lazy for all that. :ROFLMAO:

I don't really need the dual outputs of the Source Audio, but you never know, right?

I've got the EP-25-Pro Aero. Love the shape of it. it's a nice step up from the ones you're looking at and has dual outputs.

The mission is awesome! Spendy but it’s very smooth

Just throwing in my two cents - I’ve had the same Line 6 EX-1 since… somewhere in the 2005-08 range, been on numerous tours and gigs and it’s still going strong!

On the other hand, you can’t go wrong with those Mission Engineering pedals. I worked at a music store and sold a bunch of them - always well regarded and well reviewed, also never returned that I can remember.

You know, I think I actually have one of those Line 6 expression pedals somewhere.

It seems like mine wasn't wired as a potentiometer though, it was a variable resistor.

I love my M5 but hate Line 6's expression pedal idiocy. Requires an expression pedal with a 10k pot, BUT...

...needs a TS cable (regular guitar cable), NOT a TRS (tip ring sleeve) cable that MOST expression pedals use – so for expressing Line 6 gear (legacy I guess, I don't know about the newer HX type stuff, you have:
— cheapo Line6 plastic expr ped,
— Mission Engineering's ex$pen$ive compatible one. Or
— DIY expression pedal

I thought about buying a mission engineering or EHX one when I got a parenthesis commission from someone who wanted the expression octave control. I cheaped out and got a well reviewed nektar one that I couldn’t confirm worked exactly as I expected it through my Boss Katana which was all I could test it with at the time. At the bottom end of the pot it was acting as a channel switch.

The Line-6’s seem to be durable from what I’ve read but as mentioned already they’re wired differently and not compatible with a lot of standard expression inputs.

Cheap one made testing the expression out a total nightmare and I ended up knocking $15 off the commission price because I wasn’t confident it worked exactly as expected. DMM testing made me 99% sure but just couldn’t be certain.

This thread is reminding me I need to replace it and should do it sooner rather than later. Especially so it doesn’t seem like a direct cost of a commission.

Someone recommended this one to me:
I *love* my DVP5, it's the goldilocks volume/expression of that line - the 5" DVP4 was too short to feel comfy for me, the DVP3 was too big for the board (and for footlong volume/expression pedals, I think the Boss FV-500 had the smoother throw), the 8" DVP5 is big enough to feel full-sized but not be too big or heavy

(Also the DVP4 you have to open up to switch its "aux" output between "tuner" and "expression" modes, the DVP5 and DVP3 both have dedicated jacks. Not a big deal if you're only gonna use it as an expression pedal, but)
