CONTEST Fig Friday šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

CONTEST
In my last order I got knobs that are about 25 mm diameter because they were the look I was going for*, not really thinking of the logistics. The knob locations are all about 10mm from the edges.

* overhanging knobs was not the look I was going for.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

EDIT: My GF Is asking if im ok cause im literally crying laughing :ROFLMAO:
The sad thing is, I can't bear to throw them out/give them away.

Maybe a wishlist thread for a board which will take comically oversized components?

* overhanging knobs was not the look I was going for.
I answered the door like this once. Salvation army was not impressed.

Ah yes, I unfortunatley did that too: ordered 3 boards, tried the first one and it was a total mess, impossible to make it work, so I asked them what the deal was and then I got this pic with "a few small hacks", like drilling a hole into the pcb for a switch, to make it (maybe) work.

But I didn't bother, rescued some of the parts from the PCB, threw the thing away and haven't touched the other boards since then.

I've got a few cases of "shot glass" sized capacitors showing up... but probably the worst (and most recent) is getting art for a pedal just perfect (my KT Event Fuzz), but not realizing I hadn't updated the stomp switch location... and getting said enclosures with a hole right through the title... *sigh*

... well, I'm sure I'll find something to repurpose those enclosures for... some day... maybe...

It started with an article in Tone Quest about a chap called Eric, probably about 15 to18 years ago. Then came the weeks of research, schematics found and checked, mod ideas carefully filed away for future exploration. The component lists were made and the research into the various suppliers was done, this was when it was still exciting to be able to order from over seas and the internet just seemed to make anything possible, and for sure that was what I was going to do.

First came these:
PB041243.jpeg
Yep two 5U4GB rectifier tubes and a couple of matched 6L6 power tubes, oh and countless preamp tubes.

Then the capacitors.
PB041245.jpeg
The valve bases, I obviously couldn’t decide which style to go with so got both!
PB041244.jpeg
And then all the way from America, the land of dreams, the chassis for a Fender tweed twin.
PB041246.jpeg

And then reality hit! What the heck was I doing, why did I ever think a 40watt amp, as used by Eric Clapton, would make a good home amp! I was young and foolish and obviously not truly appreciating what sort of volume a 40 watt amp driving a couple of 12 inch speakers would be capable of, especially as I was of the Clapton mindset that the overdrive comes from the amp not a pedal!

To be fair it was a damn good dream while it lasted, but complete madness none the less.

I presume this was not the mistake you were thinking of Fig, but it’s the biggest one component wise I’ve made so far, but I like to think I’ve not reached my true potential on that one yet.

Not really that horrifying but a couple of years ago I ordered only a couple of 3PDTs from Tayda (or so I thought). Was really excited to get them because I wanted to finish some pedals and was mildly annoyed when I opened the package and only found these in there. Turns out I was too stupid to read the description correctly where it said it's only the PCB and not the switch+pcb :ROFLMAO:

I guess it's only fair for me to add one (of several)...three years ago, I somehow ordered 100 - 500Ī© solder lug pots. I still have 99.
I have some stuff in the works on the breadboard that they could be used for I think— When I finish experimenting I’ll send you the schematic so you can try for yourself! Then you’ll only have 97 left ;)

I learned to stick with 5 prototype PCBs instead of getting cocky and ordering a whole batch.

Stumbling upon DIY Guitar Pedals' 10-minute amp project, I got weirdly excited about putting an amp in a stompbox. But they were out of stock. So I went crazy and designed my own PCB. Dumb part: I went by caliper measurements rather than the datasheet so neither the PCB-monted switch or pot fit.

Even dumber: I ordered 20 PCBs instead of 5. Even dumber: I panelized 4 per board since they were so small.
So I have 80 useless circuit boards. Although I could wire them without PCB-mounting the pot or switch, to this day, I've never even built one. 😐

Realizing this morning how many "perfectly good" PCBs I've thrown in the trash.
