It says they pulled it from Google search results. They explain it in the article
Maybe I'm wrong, but I assume they're getting data from google webmaster tools, which gives them information about traffic that reaches their site--they're not getting access to all of google's data.

Actually, I found that trends.google.com will give you anonymized information about searches (with geographical data). They probably used this, which would make more sense.

I'm in Indiana. This evening I finished a Wampler clone for a fellow Hoosier.

Earlier today, I spoke to a Michigander (in person) who told me his board is almost all Chase Bliss, which tracks with another cold northern state: Minnesota.


(It's mean so I'm typing it small: my opinion of non-DIY pedal people in Utah and Alaska just went way down.)
