R.I.P. David Crosby

The Byrds are one of my all time favorites, especially with Gram Parsons. Was lucky enough to see their reunion tour of "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" a few years ago.

This had Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, and Marty Stuart and his Superlatives- Chris Scruggs, Kenny Vaughan, and Harry Stinson

Believe it or not, I saw them live in Cape Town many lunar cycles ago. They played 'You ain't goin' nowhere,' among others, so this might be '69 or '70. They were hugely influential on me when I was growing up (restrain yourselves please, colleagues) and this gig, despite its scrappiness and McGuinn's complaints of 'flu, remains a historic moment in my life.

We had some notable groups come through before the cultural boycott really kicked in, one such called Chase, a kind of Chicago/BS&T clone with four trumpets if I recall. Very sadly, they were all killed in a plane crash, I believe.

All right, I'll show myself out...;)

Have a good weekend, y'all. May your builds go smoothly and your fretboards welcome you with open arms strings tunings.

That's awesome. Would've loved to have seen that. It was only a few years before my time.

I think my first one was 1970, Untitled tour just before the album was released IIRC. Got to know Skip Battin and even jam with him a little several years later. Still a really great band with that lineup too.

Only saw Crosby once, with CSNY in the early 70s on one of the days they actually seemed to be getting along. Fabulous, needless to say!

Meant to post this yesterday…

The day before he passed I was doing a deep dive in my old folder of favorited Tiny Desk concerts, and the second this one popped up I was captivated. Forgot how damn good it was.

One of my few really cool experiences on Twitter was years ago having Croz quote tweet me two or three times (once about voting, and the other one or two about how great either Joni or Steely Dan is). Meaningless little interactions, but as a teen it was pretty cool to have one of the incredibly rare positive interactions with him.
