What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

Too much mailbox and not enough workbench for me. Recently work has me just brain dead when I get home. Last night I watched tv and sorted about 10% of my 6000 1 watt metal film resistor pile. That’s about all I’m good for haha.

The transformers for the GT120 build have arrived. I wasn’t prepared for how absolutely massive they are. The shipping package was 30lbs. The picture doesn’t do their size justice;

I also got some more reading material. I picked up another book by Richard Kuehnel after liking his Soldano SLO book. The two Merlin Blencowe books are fantastic. For example, a whole chapter on the cathodyne phase inverter used in the GT120 (and SVT etc). Good stuff. These were not out when I was building amps 30 years ago, I think had a few of the London Power books but I cannot remember my impression of them.

I also picked some amp lamp lenses:

I had planned to use the orange one on the left but I found these vintage lab equipment chic lenses that have the same thread as the fender style jewels. I’m leaning towards the green for the GT120 or I have a white one in the same style that might be cool with a blue colored bulb. I think I will use the red one on the right in my upcoming Dumble Bluesmaster JTM45 mashup amp build.

Back to resistor sorting.

Ever since @Barry sent me a bag of 390pF silver mica caps, I've been keen on picking up some more. I found a great deal on some silver mica capacitors on eBay last week, so now I have mountains of 53pF, 130pF, and 1100pF caps on my desk. I've got some projects planned this year where the larger footprint, mojo-looking caps will be a great fit. One of the 53pF caps already found their way into my Mechanic build (build report to come).

If you need any more 390's don't buy them, I still have plenty I'm willing to share!

Love love love Labella tapewounds. Absolutely perfect when you like that flatwound feel but want a brighter tone.
I'm almost 100% labella now. This is my first set of tapewound. I'm pretty in to it so far. I was worried about the tactile experience but it's not overly plastic feeling. It's hard to truly compare with the dead ass 17 year old flats they replaced. It's like a completely different instrument. It snarls n barks a bit louder now and I like it A LOT.

Nothing yet.

Since the strike ended, two costco catalogues, the former house-owner's got a letter, the former owner's tenant got a letter...

Oh, my wife got a gadget that reads/measures Radon — a RADON DETECTOR.

I'm planning on getting some PPCB this weekend, and Moonn should be arriving some time before summer I hope.

Meanwhile...
@Mentaltossflycoon & @vigilante398 — have you guys tried EB Cobalt Flats? I've finally procured some (didn't want to buy online, but no stores carried them 'til now... like half a decade to a decade after they were introduced they're finally in local Brick & Mortar stores? WTF?)

Yah, so diluting this thread: you two have me gassing for LaBella tapewounds...

OH and that fretless, demo, where?

I haven't used the cobalt flats. I buy bass strings so infrequently that I've not had many chances to try new things in my 3 decades with the instrument.

You know when you don't pay close enough attention to an eBay listing and it bites you in the ass?
Well, I thought I was getting a real good deal on this qty of 100 of these 5v dpdt MIJ relays(basically the same as used on PPCB relay boards but they're vertical(pins on thin side)

Turn out, if I had scrolled past the first picture and/or read the listing title properly I would have realized
1000006037.jpg

that I was getting an amazingly stupid good deal on 1000 relays.
20 tubes of 50 + the bag.
