Morning Glory Clean?

Watching the JHS video now.

The morning glory is “transparent” but the clean blend is like a boost with a “Frequency change”

And also referred to a compressor in the clean side…

From the description and the video, the clean blend knob is a dual gang potentiometer so it scales proportionally across all settings. Maybe not too dissimilar from the gain knob on the Klon?

I’m thinking that the gain of the clean signal increases while the drive signal is blended out, preventing any unwanted volume changes.

I think he was just referring to putting an actual compressor pedal in front of it. So the clean signal is also compressed.

Mixed feelings. Kind of interested, kind of find it boring.

I like the regular MG well enough. I don't think it's anything earth-shattering but it sounds nice. I don't know if it really needs a clean blend but if the did it in the style of a klon or something I'm at least a little intrigued.

At the same time, a bit underwhelming for what I'd expect out of a "all new product launch" or whatnot

I'd probably give it a try all the same

I don't think it will be useful really, since it's already a very natural and soft drive. A bass knob would be a lot more useful IMHO.

I saw basstheworld put up a video. Gregor rarely has negative things to say so I don't 100% trust his enthusiasm. I'm always down for "bass friendly" versions of stuff but the Morning Glory is not a particularly interesting circuit for bass. Adding a blend to something ok is still just ok. I have actually found that I don't enjoy blended dirt all that much unless they share a tone knob or something (DOD FX91). While yes, the low end is better blended, the two tones often sound conflicting in my ears. Maybe it's the difference in compression, I don't know.

FWIW I have built a Morning Glory with added bass pot and a Protein Blue with added bass pot and the Protein Blue is better IMO. The bass pot adds a lot to the pedal and I don't know why you can't readily get pedals like these with one. It's one of the reasons I took up pedal building!

I would rather have a clean boost with mild overdrive. The MG Clean has too much saturation and when the clean signal is blended in it just doesn't sound as good as a cleanish boost with LED clipping for example
