I agree. Just built a Greer Precipice/Black Mountain Crunch and it sounds great.Greer Amps makes some great stuff. Lot of warmth in this bad boy. It’s super crunchy.
I think the tweed one is the Tomahawk.I’ve debated on building this one. Is this supposed to be the “tweed” one or how would you describe the sound?
Love the graphics dude!Greer Amps makes some great stuff. Lot of warmth in this bad boy. It’s super crunchy.
Oh yeah. I really like the black mountain.I agree. Just built a Greer Precipice/Black Mountain Crunch and it sounds great.
I have Bat 41s in there now.Try putting a couple of BAT41's in the Southland, or low vf GE diodes. Makes it a really nice alternative to the Lightspeed.
Yep. The circuit is almost identical.I think the tweed one is the Tomahawk.
IIRC The Southland is pretty close to the Lightspeed but with hard clipping added. I don't like it as much as the Lightspeed though.
Agreed. The Black Mountain is a great distortion for such a low parts count.Oh yeah. I really like the black mountain.
how would you describe the sound?

I won't buy anything from them as long as they're gooping though. I hate that shit on so many levels.
Cloning them is essentially sticking it to them. I don’t buy any pedals anymore.Yeah, I love their circuits. I won't buy anything from them as long as they're gooping though. I hate that shit on so many levels.
I don't think Greer is gooping stuff anymore, none of the newer ones I've seen have been gooped that I recall. (Soma, Royal Velvet, Black Mountain, Mizuki)
I really like this idea. Can we get a PCB like that, @Robert ?This inspired me to check out the circuit and it is indeed ssssooooho close to the Lightspeed — apart from the op-amp, a 4PDT on-on toggle could swap between the two circuits:
POLE 1: A1M DRIVE with switched 500k across it, gets the Lightspeed 500k
POLE 2: A250k VOL with switched 180k across it, gets super close to the LS' 100k
POLE 3: switch in 2xBAT41 anti-parallel to VREF; could be on a separate toggle with a third set of clippers
POLE 4: gain resistor on IC1.2 swappable between Southland's 22k and Lightspeeds 4k7.
The Lightspeed is still my #1 go to low gainer.
