Was looking to buy some smd j201's at digikey and TH j201's popped up for 7.49 CDN each. Where have I been?

Raytheon or Northrop probably needed some to restock from the 100 billion dollar bungle in Iran.
Then again, Linear Systems has a niche in fet fab. Looking at their site, looks like they just decided to spin up the fab and fill the void in the market. Maybe they'll be around for a while, but at a premium.

Wow from the time I started this tread to now digikey has sold 4000 of them and the price dropped to $7.37 CDN

Good for pedal companies, as in the end, the pedal buyer pays for it! [insert fancy] grade quality or whatever. 🤭

InterFET has been manufacturing them for years, I'm not sure if they ever stopped?

I have them in the shop for $4, which is cheaper than Mouser but still too damned expensive for a transistor that used to cost pennies....

Then there's the other thing... I assure you these are genuine, but they sure look fake.... 🤣

Banzai sells re-labled fake shit. I wouldn't buy anything from them.
Yup, a friend of mine had really bad luck with some OTAs he paid good money for.
Banzai is super slow, makes so many mistakes in orders and sells fake shit. I suppose the only reason they are still doing business is the huge variety of products they have.

CA3080 perhaps?

Took that one out of my Banzai basket and went for Ebay instead, after going through the rare-ish parts I had bookmarked from their site.🙃

A few years back Small Bear had a heap of NOS Fairchild J201s for under $1 a pop (Can't remember how much exactly but it must have been low for me to buy them) and I bought a couple of hundred. They have sat there for those years until Chuck's wisdom taught me how to use them. Since then I have made some of my favourite ODs ever. JFETs and J201s in particular are so frustrating to use but damn they can sound good.

And now I have some SMD J201s to try.
