Back In Stock Updates

For anyone wondering why just about everything is listed as out of stock right now, it's because 1) Musikding took the last of my Nobelium boards and 2) I ran out of the 3PDT-TB boards. So I think I can still do Ambassador and Vampire Slayer, but that's it.

I have placed a large order to restock everything that ran out and a few things that are getting low, so hopefully I'll have everything back up in 1-2 weeks.

My big PCB order arrived today and I just went through and got stock updated on the website, so everything is back in stock with the exceptions of Supersonic and Ambassador.

I made a stupid careless mistake when ordering Ambassador and didn't realize it until they showed up, so I basically have 50 "blem" PCBs that I'm not thrilled about. My software doesn't like the font I use for the C2C logo so it tries to change it when I'm not looking, and in this case it did it right before I exported files, so the C2C logo came out in the wrong font and huge, so it covers up the footprints of a couple components and makes them unreadable.

Supersonic is still a weird one for me. I think it's a great sounding circuit, but it's a complex build. The people that have built it successfully tell me it sounds great, and there are a fair number that rush through the build and aren't able to get it to work. So due to the complexity and the cost of the boards and enclosures I feel like I either need to discontinue the project or release more detailed build documentation so people have a better chance of making it work.

@vigilante398 Are the blems still usable? Just make sure there’s a pdf of the board showing which components are covered up. Shouldn’t be that be of the deal I can see the c2c print being that big as it’s small to begin with.

As for the “Supersonic” that is a large build. I wouldn’t attempt it. Perhaps do away with some of the options? Is the clean channel really necessary? Or the loop? I would imagine most users just running it straight into the preamp in on their amp. I could be completely wrong on that though.

The blems are usable, but I have another PCB order to place in the next few days, I'll just revise the file. The blems are "work-aroundable", but I don't love making people do that, even if I were to discount them.

There is absolutely too much in supersonic. The loop is completely unnecessary. I like having the two-channel option so I would be inclined to keep the clean channel in, but removing the loop would bring it down to 3 tubes instead of 4 and could potentially bring it down to a 1590XX instead of a 1590DD. If I were to redesign it, I would ideally like to bring it from a 6-layer board down to a 4-layer board as well.

So that's a fair point, Supersonic could stand to shed some pounds, that would make it more manageable from a build perspective as well as a documentation perspective.

Conspiracy to Commit Electronics is reopened and everything is back in stock with the exception of Supersonic, which I've removed from the site pending a redesign. I have some enclosures on hand that I will make available as long as I have them, but once they're gone I will not be offering pre-drilled enclosures direct from me anymore.

Wrecking Ball is in stock on the website and I have the beginnings of a build doc, but for now it's just the BOM and the schematic. I'll try to get a Tayda drill file and artwork file up tonight, and I'll get detailed build instructions for it sometime in the next week.

On a semi-related note, I'm in the process of launching a Conspiracy to Commit Electronics youtube channel where I plan to put up some demos of the pedals for these projects so you can get an idea of what they sound like before building.

Just got the build document for Wrecking Ball updated with a DIY drill template for those that are into that sort of thing. Next on the to-do list is UV print artwork for tayda, then hopefully detailed build instructions this weekend, and if I'm really ambitious then a quick video demo.

UPDATE: artwork files are done. I went a little weird with them, but they should print just fine.

Hello @vigilante398 , i wanted to ask if this is the spiritual successor of the Supersonic? Supersonic is just gone and this will be the high gain preamp from now on? Or we can expect the actual Supersonic will come again, redesigned? I was expecting the redesign actually, but if this is it i can cope with it. Just wanted to know.

BTW thanks for your great work!

This is not the new Supersonic, the Supersonic is a version of the Bogner Uberschall amplifier.
The wrecking Ball is a version of the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Solo - Red Chanel.
I'm hoping the supersonic is still coming in the future.

That is basically my intention. I made a prototype of the revised Supersonic a while ago and I could never really get it working the way I wanted to, so the Wrecking Ball seemed like a good idea as it's a circuit I've done before successfully.

I won't say I'll never revisit the Uberschall design, but it's not currently on my list of things I'm working on.

Perhaps you could just sell some of the old 4 tube Supersonic PCB's, I will certainly buy one if you restock with the previous version PCB's.
Was there a reason why you stopped the 4 tube version apart from wanting to update it ?
I would love a Supersonic Phoenix, I would buy any PCB you bring back from the ashes.
Cheers
Mick

I literally only have one still on hand, I was keeping it for nostalgia. I stopped the 4-tube version quite frankly because so many people were having difficulty making it work. It was a daunting project and it was expensive, so multiple people dropped $150+ on a project that they couldn't get working. It was verified and there were a handful that did make it work, but it was expensive and difficult, and I wanted something that would get a higher success rate.

Also I didn't love that it was the only 6-layer PCB, and I figured a simpler design could bring it down to 4-layers.

That's fair enough, if you ever get tired of keeping that PCB I will gladly buy it of you but I am not going to hold my breath while you think about it.
If you happen to have several PCB's from ones that have gone to the boneyard I would love the chance to buy one, I just need the PCB and schematic and I can build it.

Would you mind if I make up my own PCB with your schematic of the Supersonic so I can order one and build one for myself ?
I am fairly sure I have the build doc for the Supersonic and I make my own PCB's layouts of lots of stuff when I can't sleep due to the pain from my bone disease.
I might have made up my own layout of nearly all your PCB's that I have bought already using Kicad, but I will never use the Gerber files without your permission, and not if you are still selling that PCB in the C2CE shop.
Cheers

Absolutely, you're more than welcome to try something with the Supersonic schematic. It's a pain in the ass design, but if you have the patience for it I say go for it.

You can now purchase the Unagi Magnetics E4305 transformer direct from the website without purchasing a PCB. I've also added the Unagi Magnetics M1380, a multi-tap inductor that's a drop-in replacement for the custom inductor used in the Ampeg SVTCL. I don't expect to sell a ton of them, but there really aren't any affordable options for that part out there so I figured I would make it available to the fellow experimenters in case anyone (besides me) wanted to play with the Ampeg-style mids control.

I was originally planning to set up a separate website for Unagi Magnetics, but since I don't expect it to ever have a ton of different products and because the target audience is still the DIY community, I figured it made more sense to keep it in with C2C.
