RIP Brian Wilson…

When I was about 4 or 5, I used to wait until my parents went to bed then sneak into the living room, put Pet Sounds on the record player and listen to it on headphones.

Even now, all these years later, it still blows me away every time I hear it.

He will be missed.

Truly devastated by this one. Brian has meant so much to me throughout my life. He’s the musical hero of mine who I’ve always related to the most. His music is largely what got me through my teenage years. I don’t know what to say… he was a once-in-a-millennium talent. Just about everyone knows the magic that is Pet Sounds, but I encourage you all to check out the instrumental mixes of the album to really appreciate all of the little nuances that go unnoticed in the full mix while contributing so much to the overall atmosphere of the arrangement— it demonstrates just how much of a genius Brian was, not just as a songwriter, but as possibly the greatest Pop arranger of all time. This is gonna sting for a while.
I’m just glad to know he’s not suffering anymore. I saw him a few times in recent memory, and it was clear he was fading. After he lost Melinda I knew it was a matter of time.

As much as I am a music lover, I am quite ashamed to say that I've never paid attention to the Beach Boys, as a teen I put them in the "silly surf music" category and they stayed there.
So I am now going to educate myself and experience Pet Sounds for the first time. Looking forward to it.

It took me a few listens to “get it.” It’s totally unique. And beautiful.
