A utility request

I'd like to have an unusual utility: I'd like a tiny breakout board that uses a transistor to drive an LED in time with a waveform or delay ping. I understand that to use this it will require tapping into the appropriate line (so it's not really turnkey), but that's not terribly difficult, and if you use an input trimmer to set the threshold you have a very cool addition to time and phase-based effects.

So you want a board with an LED, drive transistor, and a trimpot?

Would it be a deal breaker if it had a couple other (optional) components on the board?

I've been wanting to do a mini board for the LED that simulates an incandescent bulb (slight fade in / out when switching), as a positive side effect it would also prevent any pops from the LED inrush current.....

This could all be done on the same mini board. (and the fade effect would be optional)
