... am I wrong for wanting a clone of the "1987" pedal???

Or you could take my approach..... I have over 600 of the short lead .022uf 400v mustard caps that I bought without mercy when the economy in Greece hit the skids in the early 00's. Hey, they set the price not me. Literally less than 50 cents each. Only one problem, the leads were cut, ready for PCB boards.

So I redesigned the layout for the JTM50 model 1987 so that the resisters weren't in between the caps, and it actually saved a bit of space as well and allowed me to drop these into place.

This amp sounds beyond awesome..... In one volume setting you can go from heavenly tubular tones to screamin' jimi's just by picking harder. And at max volume, lol, well you just have to experience it.... Be aware the people 2 city blocks away will also be experiencing it, wear hearing protection, seriously...

I have the maximum discount at Mercury Magnetics because I've purchased so many trannies from them. They are pricey, but I can drive there in 10 minutes and do a will call and pay cash. By the time you toss in shipping for other vendors, it's about the same... Cost a lot to ship iron from WI to CA.... And there's a costco nearby, talk about a two fer!!!!

And yeah, I straightened the wires, and leads, as well as cleaned and polished the leads with steel wool before soldering. I like shiny and neat 🖖 😎

1987?! That’s when I was borned!…
Well it gets worse, the 1987 is the model number of the JTM50 and was actually first built in 1967. A source of continual confusion on many forums. I've seen questions about which is better the jtm50 or the 1987 plexi! JTM stands for Jim and Terri Marshall. After they were divorced the first three letters changed to his initials, JCM.

It was said that Jimi Hendrix achieved his unique blend of clean and dirty by running a splitter, half of which went to a Hiwatt DR504 and the other to a JTM50. I've built both, but I've never done this, lmao.....
