Awful Waffle sounds fizzy

Finally got this build to work, but I notice that turning the gain up past 9’oclock creates an undesirable fizzy spitting sound. Also the volume is crazy sensitive and very very loud. Is that normal?

100% normal. Nature of the beast on that one.

What op amp did you go with? I found the op amp used can make a bit of a difference. I think I settled on AD711 for mine, but I just happened to have one. I think the TL071 was smoother than the UA741 I had if I remember correctly.

@jubal81 is absolutely right. Just use your amp on the edge of breakup and you're good to go
