I'll never understand why the KOT is so popular. I got one when they first became available and sold it the next week. It's such a thin sounding OD. No guts at all. I have built one with "warm" mods as recommended on this wonderful site and it's much better.

I will admit that I am a Chase Bliss fan boi, so when I saw they were going to announce a new pedal I was bracing for impact. Breathed a massive sigh of relief when they announced it was basically just a souped up KoT

I got their Brothers pedal in a trade a while back, and do enjoy how versatile it is, but thankfully this current offering doesn't do much for me.

I built a Rullywow KOT early in my pedal building career, before I discovered this site, so I haven't been paying attention to any KOT related talk much. I will go and search but, what the skinny on the "warm" mods?

A few cap changed or added. Look for the jester mod.
One 10nf => 22nf
22nf => 33nf
Add a 56pf in parallel with 220kohm.

I have also built my own "Bluesbroker" which is a very fat sounding BB with a bass pot. I really like it! It's possibly too fat sounding for John Mayer freaks but I like it!

I don't really care for KOTs or like, drives that that lack a three band EQ in general, but as far as general, big-picture trends, I love to see more MIDI-controllable dirt pedals. Chase Bliss stuff has an impressive level of MIDI control in general, so here's hoping that it's pairing with dirt this time fuels even more of'em.

It's interesting - I must have a bass control in my overdrives (well, almost always!) but whenever I build a 3-way EQ I always feel that the mids control is superfluous. I always just set and forget - it may as well be a fixed value.

I think it’s kinda nifty. It’s smaller, has the added boost, midi controllable… and on top of that - perhaps the biggest thing - it’s supposedly just a standard production pedal, so presumably no years long wait list.

I mean I won’t be buying one but I do kinda see the appeal, lol.

To be fair there's a million other KoT (or Blues Breaker) derivatives and options without waiting lists, although I guess this is "officially Analogman" so if that is what someone puts value on, it's worthwhile.

But yeah, I don't think it's a bad pedal by any means - I don't think any of the Chase Bliss stuff is. It's just expensive and not necessary for most people, but unlike the 400€ basic analog fuzz pedals I think the CB stuff is fairly priced for what they are. Just... not worth the money for me for what they are.

I like chase bliss, but my feeling with them is that they tend to excel when they lean into the *weird*.

This is not that, unfortunately. If I see a drive pedal from them, I want it to go koo koo bananas town. I would want a drive that goes full on into cacophonous what the fucks. I would want enough dirt to open a miniature black hole in space time and kill us all.

I've got four of their pedals: Mood Mk 1, Onward, Thermae, and Lossy. Those get weird. I love weird.

But my wallet thanks them for not making this one a must-have. Seriously.
