I always thought that was Deaner’s microsynth with the upper octave dimed and the envelope’s start and stop frequencies being swept by Andrew while Dean played or something. Listening back it does sound like it could be the big box Frequency Analyzer thats visible in some of the studio shots from the La Cucaracha sessions (coincidentally I also ‘wished’ for the frequency analyzer a while ago too). The solo from Ween's I'll be Your Johhny on the Spot has always been a favorite ring mod example.

But if I’m not a well-known member, then how will everyone know who I am?@PedalPCB this is also a petition to change @Bricksnbeatles title to Starter of the Threads
“We did that at the studio. My guitar tech built me this ring modulator kit, like a Radio Shack kit. I’ve always been really proud of the solo on that song. It broke, and it was only used on that one song. It’s got that crazy wah-wah sound on it, where you can’t even tell it’s a guitar.”I always thought that was Deaner’s microsynth with the upper octave dimed and the envelope’s start and stop frequencies being swept by Andrew while Dean played or something. I think there may also be some ring mod stuff lightly blended into the mix bus on the solo in Captain.
That’s wild! Thanks for sharing—somehow I missed that entire article when it came out. I now know what I’ll be reading tonight!“We did that at the studio. That’s what I would guess. It’s also possible that at one point radioshack had a simple 2-transformer, 4-diode passive ring modulator, and then a synth or something was used for the carrier frequencyI wonder if that would have been the PAIA CA-9? That's the first ring modulator kit that comes to mind.
You slam the input of the ring modulator with a feedbacking phaser and send that into reverse delay while you're down on your knees turning knobs for a minute and a half while the keys and bass do a drivey walk-up and the cymbals are going wild. Drunk people like it almost as much as I do.I'm all for doing it... I started on it a while back but I think it slipped my mind, or maybe I had doubts about the schematic....
Does anyone really need a ring modulator though?
What in the world are you going to do with it?
The Mold Spore is one of only two pedals I regret selling. 20 years ago they couldn't give them away.If you can find an authentic LM565 we could do the Mold Spore Wah....
I think I have a dip MC1496...they are around in SMDs...
https://www.tubesandmore.com/products/enclosure-wah-pedal-shell-and-hardwareI just managed to grab a decent size lot of the DIP version as well as LM565 and some ICL8038's...
That should at least be a good start for this one, a Frequency Analyzer, and the Mold Spore.
