I actually met him a few times.

I lived in Wilmington, NC, for about a decade and took some guitar lessons at this tiny hole-in-the-wall guitar shop that always had his amps. He'd come in all the time to shoot the shit.

Amps sounded really good and looked nice.
 
Did he seem well informed about optical devices?
LOL, I have no idea. It was before I knew what was in amplifiers other than speakers and tubes - probably around 2006-7.

I actually found a video of Tony playing one. He's the guy I took lessons from.

 
Wasn't that the real story of the Kustom amp owner?
No idea, just Googled the name to see what is going on with this guy / brand. It's all pretty vague and fragmented, it feels like a manufactured cult status. Or some fake legend to get people talking / lusting for something?

Who knows. Maybe it's just another one of those tone things, where a perfect storm of a chain of crummy electronic components turned into something special. You know, the sense that's being talked into people down here to bust myths and taking names.
