Epiphone or Gibson???

interesting points, I have a LP special 2 from Epiphone, only thing I "might' change is the pickups but since it cost $500 US.. think the price diff can buy some damn good p-ups and strings 😉 and mine has the TOM bridge, changeable neck(nothing agianst set necks.. I like the ability to change it) and hbucks... on a blue tiger maple!

This thread is giving me deju vu.

Does @music6000 work for Epiphone?
Ha Ha!
No I don't but if I were to force myself to get that type of Guitar, it would be an Epi.
I drove 5 Hrs once to purchase a Epiphone 1998 Korina Flying V coz my mate was doing a Three Kings Tribute show & I wanted to surprise him.
It was $500.00 well spent as all it needed was the pickup had been changed out & it was wired wrong!
The Epiphone case cost another $200.00 but it was worth it.
The current Epiphone's even Joe Bonamassa model are a Korina veneer, this one is Solid Korina!

Here is a Snippet of the show, that is a Top of the line Tokai 335 that was sponsored by Tokai Australia.
He now owns it!

I knew there had to be something to that Epiphone “Korina” body. A veneer makes it more understandable.

if ya gonna veneer, make it good!! should have made that a NGD post 3 months ago when I got it...

Nothing really new here. People have been saying the same kind of thing for years. The "USA" Gibson are a bit ordinary sometimes and I don't particularly like them. But I am fortunate enough to have a CS '59 335 and a CS '59 Les Paul, both bought second hand. Both are incredible. I love 'em. No they are not built to Collings levels of perfection but they're better than most guys give them credit for and they feel and sound better than anything else similar I have tried.

I've played a few recent Epiphones and agree wholeheartedly that the quality of finish and fit has improved tremendously. They really are amazing. But they don't have the same sound and response as my guitars. Better or worse? I suspect a lot of players may actually prefer the Epis. Which is great news and good for everyone. Obviously I like my Gibsons better! I also have a 2015 Gibson ES-225 which is probably the best sounding guitar I have ever heard.

Earlier this year I bought an Epiphone Casino. I have always liked Epiphones since I had a couple of the Matsumoku Sheratons back in the '80s which I bought brand new and are possibly the only guitars I have sold which I wish I still had. But the Casino I bought recently was the USA model, made in the Gibson factory, and it is finished beautifully, plays as well as anything I have tried and sounds incredible. It has fast become a favourite. The neck is perfect for me; the set-up is perfect too. Gibson really did a great job on this one. I'm yet to play any other Casino which sounds as good. I've played Terada Casinos which are excellent but the USA one is clearly better, for me at least. It just responds in a way that the Terada ones don't quite do. And Terada make some incredible guitars...

I'm not anti-non-USA guitars. My main guitars for a long time have been Japanese (Terada) built Gretsches which I would put up against anything in terms of quality and sound. But I do wonder how well some of the Chinese guitars will age. Using different species of timber will also make them sound subtly different from the "classics" - maybe for the better, maybe not.

Main thing is that we now have no excuses! There are loads of fantastic guitars available for everyone at all price ranges.
