G&L guitars getting sold?

I think Marisa Paternoster (Screaming Females) plays a Comanche.

The headstocks are a bit janky but I've always wanted a fallout bass (fallout guitar also looked cool).

MFD pickups are rad, I hope someone carries that on. And makes a standard sized humbucker version.
Yeah, I have an S500 and they sound really good. It’s a sound between a single coil and a P90. It’s definitely not for everyone, very modern sounding.

I didn’t realize people didn’t like G&L! I have always found them very cool, even the Espada. Nothing wrong with different taste!
Don't feel bad, I have always been a huge Oasis fan and was gutted the 16 years they were broken up. When they announced the reunion I was ecstatic and was kind of shocked the amount of hate out there for it lol but whatever I got to see them in Chicago and had a blast with my wife. Different taste like you said. I'm playing gross guitars like this 🤣

G&L basses can be fantastic! The L2000 is a great bass. They did a Tele shaped bass too which the guy from Silverchair used - They sounded excellent. And I always did want an S500. I played one once or twice which had a beautiful neck. The pickups sounded good too. The smaller G&L headstocks don't bother me in the slightest.

And Mr Guardian: I am forced to put up with this hideous thing myself...

A beauty. I always have a hard time with Les Pauls because they are so heavy. I did play a couple LP special P90s that I really loved. Almost bought one a few years ago but couldn’t justify the expense. Maybe if I get a new job with a signing bonus…

Edit: I don’t get the Oasis hate. I was never a big fan but they have some really good songs.

+1 on the L2000. I have one with a #8 neck and K-mod that I use 90% of the time in single coil passive mode. So it's basically an MFD jazz bass with more charisma. It's my favorite bass for live use and when I need to assert my dominance by opening a Can of Whoop-Bass on people.

I think Cass Lewis from Skunk Anansie used G&L basses, including the tele-shaped ASAT.

Anyway, I feel somewhat sad now that G&L is no more.

Well this one is 9 lbs even so not a total boat anchor. My Les Paul special is light as a feather as is my SG. I got this when I did my big gear purge a year and a half ago. But they definitely weren't cheap.

My Les Paul is well under 9lbs - I think it's around 8 1/2? The neck is perfect for a Les Paul IMO. It has some chunk but is shaped so well it doesn't feel big at all. The bridge pickup positively sparkles - it has such an expressive sound. I haven't felt the need to change a thing, except add a little bass roll-off cap on the neck pickup. The neck pickup has a little higher DC resistance than the bridge so can be a bit boomy compared to the bridge pickup. Now the neck pickup's tone control is a (G&L style!) bass roll-off, and with it at around 9 the pickups are perfectly balanced. If I roll it back to full I get a beautiful in-between sound, IE with both pickups on.

I don't get most hate. I think Oasis lyrics are awful but the songs can be really good. Noel has admitted that the lyrics can be pretty bad as he was often coked up while writing them. I listened to a recent Oasis concert and was surprised at how slow their songs are. Maybe it's because I had just seen the Hives! I also don't really think they sound like the Beatles. Plenty of folks are obviously inspired by the Beatles but few manage to actually sound like them. Although I enjoyed the little observation in the movie Yesterday that Oasis didn't exist because the Beatles hadn't.
:)

FWIW back in the '80s I had a couple of the Matsumoku Epiphone Sheratons similar to the Rivieras Oasis made popular and they really were fantastic guitars. I gigged with them and they were definitely better sounding guitars than the Gibsons of that era. Fortunately Gibson are back to making some excellent guitars and these days I have an amazing Gibson 335 but those Japanese Epiphones were seriously good. I wish I still had one!

In the 90's, I thought Liam sounded a bit like Lennon, but I don't think the songs are very Beatles-like tbh. Some of the guitar sounds maybe? People would compare all brit pop to the Beatles in the 90's... I am a huge Beatles fan but I think their influence is sometimes blown out of proportion?

I grew up seeing Umphrey's McGee often and Jake Cinninger (almost) always plays a G&L Comanche. It's Dad Rock but almost always a cool show. I dig the PUPs and the build quality always seemed a step up not just in ways that were advertised but in the details. Sad to see them go but there will be used options out there for years to come. Hard to get bummed about new guitars not being made when I wouldn't buy one anyways.

I really like my G&L. I have an older Tribute S type. The ash body is heavier, but it sounds great. It really feels like a quality guitar. I have a newer T type with a humbucker in the neck. Same thing, it feels like a quality guitar and sounds just as good.
IMHO I think the hate is from people who have never owned one, for the most part. I would love to have a Doheny offset model.

I think a big part of the reason the Tribute series sounds so good is that they use the same exact US made pickups as their US made guitars. In fact it’s almost cheaper to buy a Tribute than a set of pickups! I considered doing that at some point.

The logo.... nothing in this world is dorkier than a treble clef.
Somehow the truest statement in this thread. Instant band dork signifier (meant lovingly as a fellow band dork).

A friend owns one of those semi-hollow SS tele's from the G&L tribute line. It seems plenty nice but at the end of the day it's just an import tele with a slightly better setup out of the box. It was cheaper than a new fender but is worth so much less on the used market that it's kind of a wash if he ever sells it.

Sad to see G&L go, but not super surprised. They really always seemed to be in a weird position in the market, squeezed on both ends of the price spectrum. The tribute line was screwed as soon as Squiers started getting good. The fullerton line always seemed like a hard sell compared to an american Fender. And now the middle of the market is flooded with tons of really good competition. Gotta be tough to run a guitar company right now :-/

Yeah, once you buy one, it’s yours. They’re a hard sell if you decide to move it on.
