The 8 watt build from last week was great too. In a way is rather watch these type of amp videos than run of the mill repair work on another Deluxe Reverb or Princeton Reverb.

His YouTube channel is awesome. Been watching it for a long time. I’ve built some hybrid headphone amps using 12v space charge tubes. 6197’s make great spud hifi amps for cheap. Lots of odd tubes out there to play with.

I’ve got PCB’s from Frog Pedals to build their tube pedal preamp and 1W tube amp, plus I’m adding the 10 minute 7W SS amp all into a single little enclosure just for testing builds. Finally got all the bits and transformer this week.

The title is slightly misleading though. The real cost of most amps is in the transformers and all the remaining bits add up too. He just happened to have power and output transformers sitting around. That being said, I think someone even commented on the video about using torroidal power transformer helps reduce overall noise with single ended amps and ends up cheaper too. There are a few guys that built the Rob Robinette Micro Blackvibe with them. It would be cool if some of the Micro projects had PCBs here.

Are you guys talking about the Frog FX1 tube preamp (Alembic F2B)? I soldered one of them up but have to make the leap to getting it into an enclosure. I've got no info to share now but once I get it running (cross your fingers) I'd be willing to share my impressions.

Yep. I’ve been talking with Mark and am going to try running the pre into his 1W tube amp and diyguitarpedals 7266 7W amp with a switch between the two. Might need his PS board yet, but I’m going to try and power the 1W amp from the pre.

Cool! I'm most likely going to use it as a stand-alone preamp to put in the loop of a couple amps that I have that don't have the best tone. I also envision trying it as a bass preamp or even as a pedal if it cooperates with my different amplifiers.
