Jlcpcb and tariffs

I got an email from DigiKey this morning promoting their DKRed service. My head doesn't feel like mathing but 1.50 / sq in, minimum 1 sq inch, minimum 4 boards. Any color you like, as long as it is red.

So i just had 30 faceplates and 30 pcbs delivered in march slow shipping. I thinj it was about. 40$.

One of those pcbs would cost 9.85 and have to be red. 😂

I don't know how much "not worrying" is worth to you.
At a 1000% increase in price and then still having to decide on what to do for graphics, its probably just not worth making them anymore. I sell 1-2 a week probably at a price that doesnt make the labor make sense beyond i like doing it. Not sure howd they move for 15-20$ . Hopefully trump and the chinese president put the rulers away, zip up their pants. And we can all move past this non sense since we obviously cant compete with a zerd world country for labor prices

This really isn’t comparable with JLCPCB or any of the other Chinese PCB fabricators. A few months ago I decided to build a clone of the Mountainking Megalith, so I whipped up a PCB and had JLCPCB fabricate it, which cost $3.71 including shipping. The entire build cost just under $30, including a UV printed enclosure. If I was stuck having to use DKRed, it would have cost me $42 for the PCBs alone. It would turn a $30 project into a $70 project, which for me would mean that there would be no project.

JLCPCB is going to be worth it for most of us established using it, regardless of tariffs.

As @vigilante398 pointed out earlier, even a tariff heavy pick and place order is gonna be cheaper than stateside fab houses.
I think at this point its just wait and see what the deliveries charge for brokerage. Paying double for boards isnt too bad honestly compared to alternatives.

Anyone gotten a quote from tayda yet?

Given how bad JLCPCB shipping already is for large pick and place orders, I don’t see Tariffs being a big deal at all.

My last batch was almost $70 JUST for shipping.

I use DK Red quite a bit, for my typically very small boards the only major drawback is the non support for plated slots, but there’s always OSH for that. I tried going direct to their primary fabricator in California for a quote once, DKR is actually a huge bargain in comparison!

I just checked by adding a recent order to may cart. Tariff fee shows up for all shipping methods but global standard direct line.

Merchandise: $38.58
Shipping Estimate: $26.56
Customs Duties and Taxes: $67.52 (Effective rate = 175%)

Global Standard Direct Line note: Carriage paid to a named destination. Duty, tax, and the carrier’s clearance handling fee collected before or at the time of delivery at the destination.
