Up appears to be the LED's to me, just my opinion.
If you zoom in on the build doc you will see the switch is upside down with 1 on the bottom, switch up closes 1-2 on the switch.
I wish there was a Bass/Fat/Rat switch for the HPF on the IC, it just needed one switch SPDT ON-OFF-ON, one cap and one resistor for that mod.

I had interpreted it as "up is LEDs" as well.

Or middle can just be like a nice buffer as long as you don't crank it into clipping the OP amp.

Certainly not the typical use case of a Rat circuit, but sure.

Not for a normal RAT, but since yours has a tube buffer after it it might still be nice, I would have to build one to know but I have some normal RAT's laying around and if I was going to make another one I would want a FAT and a BASS mod done to the HPF at the OP Amp since I now have Guitars and Basses at home.
