Starting in 1989, I used to travel to Houston frequently for manufacturer update training on testing equipment purchases. It was always the same small group of people so we got to know each other and had a bit of fun with it. Two trips I distinctly recall are the first;
While there the Loma Prieta earthquake happened. The test equipment we were training on actually recorded "ripples" because one of the data points being collected was the liquid level inside a horizontal underground steel tank.
The second notable trip (and coincidently our last) also involved nature being naughty;
1998 tropical storm Frances was headed straight for Galveston. The training had been cancelled so we rode down to..yup, Galveston. I'll try to find the polaroid of me being swallowed by a wave that crashed over the seawall / parking area. We left as the water was starting to cross the road to the bridge out.
Sorry..boring old dude story...
