What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Could have finished it up tonight, but adulting is getting in the way. Glad I went with mint. Had to do some routing for the neck pup since the asshat before me decided not to finish what they started and just drilled extra pickguard holes and install it crooked to fit the pup that they didn’t even hook up😑
Beautiful. I love maple necks.

No pictures, but I had another set of enclosure designs on my "workbench". I feel like I spend maybe half of the time spent on this hobby building and half of it sourcing and preparing the designs - and don't get me wrong, I love doing the enclosure designs, it's one of my favourite parts. It's just surprisingly time intensive. Now just need to source the parts Tayda doesn't stock for the Mad Bean VFE switching board... Thankfully I can just order 4 times as many as I need at once and have to do it once, but Mouser can be pretty expensive... I'll have to see if there are other options, LCSC maybe.

"Only true legends know what this is".

Nah, I won't do this BS to you. It's Mu metal, salvaged from an old oscilloscope. The best thing for shielding against electromagnetic fields. For those times when copper or aluminum foil does nothing at all to fix the issue at hand.

But honestly, why don’t people shield their cavities with mu-metal?
It's pretty tricky. It doesn't so much shield as it actually redirects the magnetic field lines along itself. They still come out of it at the edges. If you just randomly shape a piece of Mu metal around a pickup, you might end up with a concentrated noise field shooting out into the back or sides of the pickup, making things worse. Best to completely enclose something in it. But that doesn't work for pickups if you want them to work.

@steviejr92 looks great! Any developments with the store?
Thank you dude!

I’m the worst 🤣 the reality is I don’t think I can keep up with demand if I put up a store, I know it’s a good problem but it’s a problem none the less. I’m currently building a cnc plasma table to help out with orders. From there I think I’ll be in a position to open an online web store.

Mu metal requires special care. First, it easily saturates if the magnetic field is too high, e.g., when placed too close to a magnet. Second, it can lose its high magnetic permeability when bent or stressed too much - to recover its properties afterwards, it then has to be specially annealed in the presence of hydrogen gas (which has to be done right due to the obvious danger - remember the Hindenberg?). And, of course, mu metal is not cheap...
