What are some “must build” pedal circuits that you think everyone should try?

I’m a little obsessed with dirt pedals lol.

I built the VCR just because I thought it was neat and wanted to try something a little more challenging but not over the top. I have a 3-series reverb and delay but want to build my own and sell them. I also have a Wampler Ratsbane, Pinnacle Deluxe, and JHS Bender.

My next build is going to be a MKIII tone bender. Does anyone have a reliable source for a matched trio of transistors for it? I’ve found one on eBay for $38 shipped but that seems high to me.

ETA: it’s OOS anyway.

It's cheaper to buy a dozen Russian GE trannys and audition them yourself. Q3 is the important one, get the leakage right on that guy and it works great. NPNs work as well or better than PNP, so if your board has a charge pump, you can leave it off when building with NPN.

My $0.02 ±5%

I haven’t been able to find NOS boxes on eBay since the war started. I know that’s probably not the main problem to focus on though…

At least one Big Muff or some derivative thereof. It’s a particular type of fuzz that I think everyone should at least try. What particular one will depend on ones style and taste.

Never even noticed this one before. Any idea how it compares to the Tone Job?
I've not built or played the Tone Job, but the Vari o Boost allows you to boost or cut 12db of a particular frequency (1.4kHz - 70Hz) while also giving you a good, beefey drive. It may not sound like much but it's pretty powerful, especially following a good distortion, but even on its own. I've loaned a few out to people but they never seem to make it back to me.... :ROFLMAO:

The Tone Job & VarioBoost are completely different beasts.
The Tone Job is the 3-band Baxandall EQ from the Talons. Like the Talons, EQD screwed up the MID control so that it overrides the BASS & TREBLE controls. The problem can be mitigated, see the Mod Report I wrote for the Talons here.
The VarioBoost is a very effective EQ Control. I liked it so much I built one into my CMOS Overdrive Deluxe.

Fine. Give me a month or so to spin one. Probably 1590BB though, no way I'm shoving it in a 125B. The only boards I have for it right now are pre-assembled SMD.

Seriously, let me know when it’s ready and I will gladly buy it.

I haven’t heard of the Vario before but it’s been added to my list.
