Can’t remember who first gave the suggestion of using smd electrolytics as low-profile tht caps, but a big thank you for sharing that trick! Too late at night to do any desoldering, but thanks to that suggestion, this guy’ll wind up fitting in the 1590B after all! Got my smd electro assortment from amazon today, and I can confirm that the new caps are much shorter.

SMD caps seem cheaper than low profile THT caps.
