Let’s have a boring discussion… how about tuners!

I have a TC Electronic Polytune 3, can choose between true bypass and buffered, it can power other pedals, the screen is very visible and you can pick between strobe and regular tuning
 
I bought one of these a few years ago from Japan:

I thought it looked cool and nobody else here would have one. Except now you can buy them locally. :-( Still, it's an excellent tuner. I really like Korg tuners. My first tuner was a Korg bought maybe around 1983? It wasn't a pedal; they didn't exist then. It sat on top of my amp and you had to manually select which string you wanted to tune and a needle would wobble around.

I've used the TC Polytune (the first one) but for me it wasn't all that accurate. Tried a Boss TU2 and like DAJE had problems with it. I was playing in a band with a bassplayer who was very loud and never stopped bloody noodling and the TU2 was sensitive to it so I could never get my Gretsch in tune. Then it stopped working altogether. I also didn't like its buffer. Tried one of those blue Peterson tuners and didn't like it for whatever reason - I can't remember!

The Korgs are easy to use, have great displays and are unerringly accurate. This is the second Pitchblack I've had. I've wondered about the One Control tuner but I'm wary of buffers. I only use 2-3 pedals for gigs and have had bad experiences every time I've used a pedal with an always-on buffer.

I’ve got that same tuner still, but a few years ago did “upgrade” to the HD. The blue one still works fine, and the display is more strobe like ( in terms of the tuning animation) than on the HD, but the display on the HD is much brighter. For acoustic, at home, I use the Peterson phone app, which is what I also use for setting intonation, etc. it acts more like that old blue tuner.

When not around those fools, I use my ears. Oftentimes just searching for "A440" on my youtube app.

I'm sure those are the Lamborghinis of clip tuners though.

Noodlers are the worst. Instead of learning the material and curbing their alcohol consumption here they go weedly weedly wee between songs, in front of the audience. They're also always out of tune and sure enough, they tune with the guitar on like they're Jimi at Woodstock.
Amateurs.

I only have one pedal tuner, a Pitchblack poly. Never use the poly function but the strobe with the added line. Works fine for bass too. Very rugged but sometimes the footswitch doesnt register.

I like the TC Polytune clip around the house. Clip ons all seem very flimsy but This is a bit sturdier.

I'd like to get the Sonic Research because it seems very sturdy. Not available in Europe really. The Peterson with its giant screen seems very easy to break.

I was really into the idea and bought one right when they came out but I ended up lending it to a bandmate.
It was too bright for me- I just wish you could turn the damn screen off when you're not tuning but it's on all the time.

I switched over to a Mini PolyTune2 which I re-housed and I like a lot- simple, accurate and around $60 used.
I think it'll make me happy indefinitely:

Nowadays I’m just using the tuner built into HX effects/stomp/etc. but I had a Strobostomp HD and loved it. I’d be curious if anyone knew what the actual settings were for some of the “sweetened” tunings. I know the HX tuners can do string-by-string offsets so I’d think you could more or less approximate the same “sweetening” but I wouldn’t really know where to begin.
 
Man, I must be in the dark ages because I'm still using a Boss TU-2. I've never had an issue with it. I'm pretty much a home player now so maybe someone gigging a lot would have some issues with it. I just wish it had top jacks.

I have the Strobostomp HD, and if I needed another tuner wouldn't hesitate to get the new compact one.

I don't have a TurboTuner, but that's the only other option I'd consider. Having the strobostomp sold me on strobe tuners.

I read the Strobostomp take a while to turn on, is that true?
 
Nothing wrong with the old TU-2. I had one on the road back in the 80's and everyone in the band used it. Got beaten to death and had to glue it back together a number of times. No idea whatever happened to it.

These days I use a Poly Mini because you can see the lights from outer space and I can last minute tune as I walk onstage.
