Jlcpcb and tariffs

made a non enclosure order this morning. 125$ worth of knobs, hardware, caps etc. shipping dhl was just over 5$.
My understanding is that the tariffs don't take effect until the end of the month, and it's pretty clear that enclosure orders aren't going to ship before before the end of the month. Everything else typically will, so you probably have a few days before it's over everything.

My last enclosure order

that makes sense. There was a note on the shipping page that said no tariffs no fees

This is 30 125b size enclosures.

So about double. It really only comes out to 1.5$ per pedal though in difference so its not end of the world. Sucks, but….

But at the end of the day, did everyone expect everything would cost nothing in perpetuity?
That's a pretty weird take on this. What is happening right now isn't a case of "everything [used to] cost nothing," a la Uber, where prices temporarily were artificially low because venture capital was subsidizing the business. Tayda hasn't changed their prices. The only reason that things are more expensive is that someone arbitrarily decided to inflict a tax increase (illegally, IMO) on Americans. So yes, it was completely reasonable to expect that prices weren't going to shoot up over night.

I think big monk has been being a bit of a devils advocate on this. As we all freak out keeping it a bit grounded that we will still be able to make pedals for not enormously more. It all does suck and i think most of us are on the same page that the twit in the white house is making some very bad decisions that have some serious negative effects. When i started this thread it was out or concern that jlc wasnt going to be a viable option anymore. And that isnt the case. I literally just ordered 25-30 enclosures soon as i heard the thailand thing. And it still looks like tayda will be the cheapest route for enclosures. It does suck. And theres no logic behind it ive been able to figure out. But its not quite as bad as feared. And as the effects get seen in the broad community (i don’t know anyone personally other than myself who regularly purchases products directly from overseas). The public opinion will sway as it appears to have already. Mid terms are a year away as much as hes trying to fix it. These bad decisions should have some consequences in the swing states at least.

I would think they do the powder coats in batches. Which finish was it? I inow they mention on a few they can take longer.

Keep in mind: UPS, FEDEX, etc. seem to be opportunistically pummeling average people among the chaos.

Prices of actual parts are not rising along the apocalyptic lines people think.

Tangential things are getting more expensive and it’s mostly opportunism by shipping companies.

I don’t know about that. DHS has had staffing and other cuts for everything but one particular department. There have been no substantive directions about how or who is responsible for levying tariffs, collecting payments, and disbursing them to the USG.

None of this went through congress. It is quite simply the whim of one person. In the absence of actual policy, courriers can either hit pause or process everything. They do have two options for the latter: process everything according to the customs paperwork or apply a flat rate for sub $800 parcels. Last year’s numbers put the figure of de minimis eligible parcels at 4M/day. It’s absurd to expect them to scale their workforce and systems to accommodate this without recouping expenses. Of course that is going to be paid for.

There often springs a cottage industry around the confusion of new “policy”, approved or otherwise.

To the point made previously: No, we did not have a choice in this.

And no, I did not vote for this current guy.

But I have a feeling if this came from the other side of the aisle, we’d not have such strong sentiment against it.

And at the end of the day, I pose this challenge: Name one thing, that’s not shipping, that has drastically changed about building pedals?

The tariffs are charged by the shipping company are they not?

Edit: the tariff fee is handled by the shipping company.
