Jlcpcb and tariffs

I chose the "Global Standard Direct" shipping option for my latest order. No customs assessed at time of purchase. No extra fees when it got to the states. Shipping time was 17 days. Pick your poison, I guess.
I’m glad it’s worked for others, still haven’t received my order from March of this year, only got 1/2 refund from JLC. I guess customs really liked my designs lol

Welp, looks like Tayda tariffs are happening now. Just placed an enclosure order and DHL is now the only shipping option and tariffs are included in shipping costs.

Farewell cheap UPS enclosure shipping, it was great while it lasted.
Thankful I just made a 400$ order a week ago and shipped UPS today. Bummed that was my last order without tariffs. Man

Barring explicit guidelines for processing and collection—as well as a determination that those new systems will still be cost effective for the courrier—I imagine those will pop up across the board for pretty much everything but B2B overseas shipments.

Edit: For background: when the previous administration was discussing overhauling the de minimis system, a report indicated that “[e]very day CBP processes nearly four million de minimis shipments entering the United States.” Now, effectively, what had started out as a proposal for targeted changes to the system has been replaced with a very blunt approach that is completely upending it.

Just added 15 enclosures to my Tayda cart as an experiment, and shipping with the sex predator tariffs was over $50. Looks like those of us selling clones on the side at already razor-thin margins are done for.

Will likely become more common for German online stores at least. DHL Germany suspended shipping to the US for all commercial shipments as well as private gift shipments if they're worth over 100 USD.

Shipping is a write off.
More people than usual will have to file 1099-K forms this year. Hobbyist builders that sell on the side but have not incorporated or otherwise set up a commercial structure will more easily meet the lowered reporting threshold ($2.5k)—especially because those will be generated automatically by payment processors and they won’t be very discerning about it.

Shipping, taxes/tariffs, materials, utilities, etc. can all be submitted when calculating your total liability (i.e., taxable profit).

A write off doesn’t mean that it’s paid back to you. You still spent that money. It just factors into your overall expenditures to get your net profits. Note: As far as I know, the granularity of business taxes doesn’t apply to an individual working out their 1099-K (e.g., COGS, depreciation, expenses). So, unless that expenditure is being made up through price increases (which is going to chill the market when everyone does it at once and sales volume decreases), you are materially worse off than you would be otherwise. Especially given the lower reporting threshold for this tax year.
