You can probably find more details elsewhere, but basically he mouthed off on social media about the George Floyd protests, then after he was called out, doubled down with some whiny BS that was even worse. Retailers stopped carrying Fulltone, got cut from a Reverb documentary, etc etc.

He's a douche but let's please have some damn context.

He posted that looting stuff only 2 days after looting in Santa Monica that was a stones throw from his building. He may have bad opinions on many things but I don't think his looting comments had a lick of Racism in them. Period.

36 hours of smash and grab near where you had a business, not to mention if it WAS your business, might have you bent out of shape as well.

He may be an asshole but people really took his looting comments and ran with them.

For some, though, looters=protesters…

Remember, the OCD was a big deal a couple decades ago, before the renaissance of boutique builders, when there weren't many good "transparent" overdrives on the market. Now there are dozens of pedals that fill that niche and do so much better, plus those builders don't participate in his same extracurricular behavior.

He also inflicted this on himself because the rest of his pedals I've had the misfortune of trying are muddy garbage (the '70, '69, Catalyst, Fulldrive), and he is not afraid to shy away from Comic Sans.

The context is a white man went off on a tirade about how cops weren’t protecting property after a cop murdered a Black man. He indelicately equated protestors and opportunist looters while not acknowledging the bigger picture. People can read between the lines and see his intent when you combine that with his other politics.

People were upset that he was speaking out about HIS SECURITY while discrediting the grievances of others. (Power dynamics and equivalencies.)

When people reacted, he responded with a misogynistic insult publicly and at least one personal threat privately.

When he released his (almost assuredly drafted by a PR firm) apology, he acknowledged that he shouldn’t have “opened his mouth mouth about this, let alone [throw] gas on a sensitive subject? I’ve been thinking a lot about his, and I believe the answer is insensitivity, anger, and most importantly Fear.”

The entire issue is the context. He has legitimate concerns about his property. However, instead of doing something about that by calling the cops or whatever, he chose to make the murder of a Black man by a cop about him in a very public way.

Power dynamics and structural violence are very real. His actions—and those of many others—served as effective erasure of the point of the protests.

That's what did him in. Never mess with graphic designers. When I was one, I called out the Algerian font on my design blog for being butt ugly and its creator apologized in the comments, saying "Microsoft made me do it"

I see @Big Monk 's point and it is valid. Looting is always bad but Fuller doubled down and that was the beginning of the end. Transparent overdrives may be good for business, transparent opinions may be not.

Anyway I feel nothing for the guy. I don't know how big 17 acres is but I'm pretty sure it's more than the 28 square meters I struggle to rent.

In this day and age of hyper awareness of social topics, sometimes a guy concerned about looting is JUST a guy concerned about looting.

Reading his other comments on social media media though would suggest that's a pretty narrow take on his views on that entire situation.

Hahahahahagahaha f*** Mike. I’ll never forget how he cursed me out nearly a decade ago because I asked to be taken off the mailing list after I had “unsubscribed” but kept getting emails from him. Said his unsubscribe button worked fine and I must be stupid, then something like he wouldn’t even let me buy a fulltone pedal if I tried because he couldn’t trust me to not be an idiot and break it.
All because I said “hey! Could you please take me off the mailing list. The unsubscribe button at the bottom of your emails hasn’t been working. I use this email for school stuff only now, and I’m already subscribed with my personal email, so I dont need two of the same email each time.”

After telling me to F myself and berating my intelligence (even though the button didn’t work— it would tell you you’ve been unsubscribed, but you’d still get emails), he took *both* of my email addresses off the mailing list.

When he turned out to be a greasy racist slime. I was absolutely unsurprised. The writing has been on the wall for Mike, and he wrote it himself.
