Fuzz War V1 Question (Transister-related)…

Well.. here are a couple guitars belonging to the Death by Audio/ A Place to Bury Strangers guy:

I imagine the pedals are designed and built in a similar fashion? 🤷‍♂️

A Place to Bury Strangers is a cool fuckin' band. :) Very dangerous live sets.

I have no problems whatsoever with DBA. I 100% support their insanity. I’m not a fan boy, but I absolutely adore the companies ethos. They make toools for making a fuck ton of noise. If you want pretty, go look at Reeves…

And if you want something Napoleon Dynamite, go with JHS…

I mean, EQD used to be a pretty punk rock pedal company too, but the insides of an OG Hoof looks *way* cleaner (and, one assumes as a result, serviceable) than that

I saw a vid where the DBA guy takes the camera crew into the DBA "atelier"-slash-collective and gives them a tour of the place — I loved how haphazard their whole setup is. Like Coda, I'm not a fan boy, but I love how they just went/go ahead and got/get shit done.

I vaguely recall the vid/tour starts out with Ackerman outside on the street and takes the crew inside — maybe a decade-old vid? Now that I've searched for it, I see there's a bunch of newer vids such as EQD's DBA-Factory-Tour...
OCD is kicking in, wish I could find that original vid I saw.

There’s a decent documentary about the last days of the original Williamsburg location of DBA that goes through a lot of the history of the space, the venue, the pedal co, etc, before the space was reno’d and became the Vice HQ.

It’s called Goodnight Brooklyn and you can find it on Tubi or Prime.

Finally.... Thanks to a heads up from a forum member I was finally able to get my hands on the elusive 7-transistor version.

Let's get answers to these questions....
So...? :) I've never really vibed with my Bellum MKI so I've been curious to see where this went. Any chance you could measure the hFEs when you get around to it?

Bear in mind that the correlation between forward beta and reverse beta is very weak. Measuring forward beta is not going to tell us much, if anything, about how a particular transistor will behave in the FW1 circuit. Better just to measure the DC voltages in-circuit for comparison purposes.

Can you confirm that Q7 & Q8 are connected upside-down also? I've seen it both ways on various schematics.

I assume you mean Q6 and Q7 (they're numbered backwards on the Bellum schematic so it'd be easy to confuse as Q7 and Q8).

Yes, they're oriented upside down. Collector to ground through 390R.
