Jlcpcb and tariffs

It was only gone for China already. Now it's for all countries at the end of August. So for jlc it won't make a difference, although many of us didn't see tariffs assessed anyway. But you might want to sneak in a Tayda order.
Hopefully tayda comes up with something like jlc has.

Maybe tayda can bring back the long boat option and we all quietly pass under the radar like the JLC option. fingers crossed.

I suspect commercial builders will be the ones hit the hardest by that.

Semiconductors make up a small percentage of the cost of a typical DIY build. For the average overdrive this would impact the cost by what, $2 - $5? Not such a big deal if I'm only building one or two (or even 50), but hundreds/thousands? 😬

Boooooy I guess all them overdrives make sense now. 🤣

It's a domino effect. Pcbs are more, components are more, shipping is more. It's almost getting to the point where buying a commercial pedal makes more sense🙄😡

What infuriates me is that he's got us talking about whether he will or won't. Not that he legally can't; the power to set tariffs belongs to Congress. Whether he does or doesn't set a new tariff is secondary—he's already usurped Congress. He's already won.

Maybe stop buying PCBs from those other places..... 🤣

Nah I can't argue with that, and certainly won't pretend any of this is a positive thing. When I first started this I could ship PCBs worldwide for $3.

Prices here haven't increased though, in fact I dropped the price on a few things yesterday and made a couple items qualify for discounts that didn't previously.

I suspect we'll see commercial prices increasing right along with DIY though.... besides, have you actually seen anything new in the past year or two that you actually wanted to buy? ... Me either.

Its kinda disturbing to think that if this continues, in a few years DIY / used might be the only way to find a plain old analog pedal.

If I hadn't already been doing this for years and built so many things already this would be a bigger bummer for me. Sucks to see other people pay the price though.

Unfortunately the gear community is in a pretty boring place. Maybe you should be making DIY Great AGAIN with some modulation and delay pedals Robert 😂

A 300% tariff in semiconductors will effect just about everything thats powered anymore. How many semiconductors are in a car, laptop, washing machine etc. Hopefully those in the house and senate will realize what this will do or pay the price at midterms (though seems like the cultists don’t seem to care).

It almost makes sense to actually play these things instead of just building more.

Penalizing a specific industry, then exempting the major players in that industry from that penalty is baffling.
It only makes sense if you take the purpose of the tariffs at their word. The actual purpose is to provide an excuse to penalize any industry, company, or CEO that doesn't bend the knee. And if some smaller players go out of business in the process, who cares? They'll get acquired by larger companies and cronies.

Sorry to be cynical.
