UK import fees from Tayda

As above really. I haven't put in a Tayda order in 4 years and have no idea what the customs charges will be now. In theory any order under £135 will have had the VAT charged by the seller and won't have to be paid to the delivery company but I've loaded up my cart and they don't seem to be charging me VAT.

I find importing stuff has been a confusing mess since Brexit and I have no idea if it's still worth even ordering from Tayda anymore.

Has anyone from the UK ordered from tayda recently? What did you have to pay and did DHL screw you?

I'm not from Ole Blighty, but in Germany and have noticed the general trend with DHL is that they process the customs payment but take a charge for doing so..

Yeah I'm thinking that DHL will charge me an admin fee for processing the package then charge me the VAT on top. This will probably amount to 20% + approx £10. I'm also wondering if there will be any other 'hidden' fees that I don't know about yet.

I'm just trying to work out if I'm better paying $6.99 per enclosure plus about $29 shipping plus the VAT and any other random fees they add on vs buying some Gorvas in the UK for about £13 each.

Add in the £ being at the lowest level vs $ since the decimal system came into use and suddenly Tayda looks expensive WTF kind of world are we living in when Tayda is the expensive place.

Ah how I miss the good old days when Tayda would write SAMPLES on the front and under represent the value and shipping costs so I wouldn't have to pay any import or VAT. It would take 6 weeks to get here but it was cheap AND you have an awesome surprise when the order you placed 6 weeks before and forgot about would randomly arrive.

For comparison, I have an order coming from Tayda into Germany that I just paid the customs/DHL fees on.

Tayda: €300
Customs/tax: €55
DHL handling feeds: €65

There was an extra €45 per-line handling cost.

That's pretty shit. I found their admin charges buried in the small print of their UK site and running the numbers it will cost me damn near the same amount of cash to order 8 gorva Enclosures in the UK at about £13 each as it would to order 8 Tayda Enclosures at $7 each. Especially now the £ is worth less than at any other time since before I was born.

So Tayda is no longer an option for me.

I need to see the final invoice to decipher it. There is a handling fee, and also an extra per-line item which I am not sure how it is calculated.

In any case, it makes the hobby more expensive. I wouldn't mind keeping within EU to purchase but range is usually limited.

Unfinished enclosures look pretty good from here out..

Enclosure wise I used to order a lot from Banzai but Tayda ended up being much cheaper though their powder coating was also much lower quality.

I'm definitely not ordering bare enclosures though. The hassle of panting and cost of supplies makes it not worth it for me. I'd rather have my time back and pay a bit more.

I definitely think my best option in the UK is powder coated gorva Enclosures from gojira at £13 each. I'm stuck with black, silver and white but a lot less hassle and random expense than Tayda now.

I just got the itemised invoice from DHL and have worked it out.

Each category of component is a separate line, which corresponds to a separate customs entry (ie. all enclosures are lumped together, all ceramic caps, all electro caps). In my case there were 13 categories, and DHL process a certain number as part of the regular handling cost, with additional ones incurring a per line/category cost.

I am sure DHL could find new ways to ream, but I hazard a guess that if I just ordered enclosures then it would be "just" the handling fee of €15 (which is tolerable).

I have gone with bare enclosures for some stuff, just to buy local. Graphics be damned. Limited to 1590A/B/BB though.

This policy is new, I let them know that this new policy is a killer for anyone who imports low costs and multiple types items. The poor broker lady felt the same but was bound by the new procedure even if all the agents hated the new billing approach.

Oh well, they lost a customer in me, and I suspect many others...

I do not, but next order I will try another shipping company. I do have used UPS in other type of import shipping. Cost of brokerage were similar to DHL, but the speed of deliver not comparable. That's what frustrate me the most, DHL is super good for Asia to Canada shipping, but those last extra lines charges makes it a non-option.

I'll have to look at other options and decide if I care more about my money or the time of shipping...
