@dawson — thanks for the hair-band and pliers trick!

The wood with a slot in it to hold a PCB upright was something I'd never have thought of in a gajillion years, yet made so much sense once I saw it.
Once I used the wood with slot, I couldn't fathom why I thought a "PCB-Holder" was the way to go.

Mind, I've got most all the contraptions, ie third-hands and PCB holders, and I still use them all depending on what I'm doing and what will work best.

I've got a pic somewhere of me soldering a series of patch-cables together for a friend — a foot-long 2x4 with a half-dozen 1/4" holes in it to hold the jacks in place while I soldered the wires in assembly-line fashion.

After moving back to Canada, at first I had no scraps of wood laying around at the new house — drilling enclosures and all the other sundry scrap-wood uses ... well it was a pain not having any scraps around. I've got lots at the moment now, though.

Here's another trick I started to use:

I tack-solder one leg of the electrolytics, then I go back with the board vertical on its edge and using my thumb to apply light pressure to the 'lytic, I reheat the solder joint lightly and if the thing isn't already seated smack against the board it is after giving it the "thumb-rush". Then I solder the other leg in using the same method — no more wobbly electros!

PS: don't forget this thread folks!

Got what very well may be my last defx board, the brass monkey aka the devi ever silver rose. I do hope their closing isn't permanent. just waiting on my 2sc828Q to show up from overseas ... I do have to figure out what I'm going to do with this unfinished 1590J enclosure. I'm thinking silver hammered but it will come down to whatever I fall in love with at the spray paint section of the farm store ... which historically has been some vintage tractor color like that john deere green klone I built with yellow knobs way back in the day

Couldn’t resist the Aion sale, and their new releases.

The Neurotron was a bit harder decision. In the last month I found a project I must’ve started 12 or 15 years ago, a String Ringer, based (but not a clone) on the Ring Stinger, and I was at odds with myself about not finishing that build before considering starting all over (I mean, look at that enclosure, all drilled!) but decided that I will be happy with one version of this, and trust Aion. Amazingly, the rotary switches are the correct size, and I’ll pull the trannies to use those.

But if anyone is interested in the board and enclosure, let me know—I‘d rather see them used. (I am planning on filling the holes so I can re-use to box, but if someone wants the boards, I’ll throw the Hammond in too. Beware that other than the rotaries, everything is off board wiring, and there’s a LOT of “everything.”

Edit—actually, the pots are board mounted as well.

One other question—I haven’t seen any mentions of the Photon board here, the SD Pickup Booster—does anyone have experience with this board? I’m mainly interested in transistor gain, etc.

I got the Moonn pride pack! Awesome haul, I've been eyeing Space is Fun for a while which was there, and considered building a Plumes (and the pack included an Intensified Birdfluff), plus a couple of interesting things.

Whole list:
Space is Fun
Intensified Birdfluff
Schwurbel (Tim Escobedo PWM I think?)
Good Vibes (simple vibrato pedal)
Hulk (Green Giant)
Barks (Bellows)
Heavy Machinery (Fat Fuzz Factory)

I already do have a fuzz factory, but that's a 1590BB so I could maybe do this one in a 125B size (plus it's not a fat, and if I add the stab footswitch that's another difference).

I was thinking of maybe going for smaller enclosures and plain colors for the simpler ones, but tbh 1590A's don't really work with top jacks (and side jacks leave you with a similar space anyway, plus mismatch with my other stuff), and 1590B's are almost the same size as 125B's... so maybe I'll just go with the same normal 125B stuff I've been doing so far. And while I'm at it, might as well whip up graphics for them too. Oh well.
