I recorded all my music and some friends projects all on logic 9 under snow leopard with a macbook pro from 2008, i still use the same setup today. Never had any problems so I don't want to change. For the mastering instead i use the same macbook but in a another partition I have high sierra with logic pro x, just because I need plug-ins that are unfortunately not compatible with logic 9.

To practice and structure the songs instead I use Reaper on windows with Positivegrid stuff, but just for convenience since for work I have always turned on windows machine.

In the past, before the mac, i used pretty much everything from cubase, nuendo etc.
To date I can say that all in all it is just a matter of habit, each daw can do everything that another daw does. The most important thing is the stability of the whole system so as not to waste time or entire jobs.

Does Reaper have a vst instrument for programming midi drums?

I use MT Power Drum Kit 2 with Reaper. It's a decent VSTi midi drum set that you can use for free the same as reaper (if you can endure a splash screen on load up). I've since bought both as I use them a lot and find the small price an incredible value for me in my situation.

I have Reaper, haven't done much with it, I've also used Audacity some
