Sonic Youth to Reopen Reverb Shop to Sell Studio-Used Guitars, Pedals, and More

As soon as I saw that Sonic Youth were selling gear I thought who would buy that? It will be wrecked. And I LIKE Sonic Youth!
I get the appeal from a collector perspective of getting a piece of gear that was used on a recording you love. Not that I’ll ever have that kind of money, but I can imagine it.

After reading both their memoirs, I regret that I liked their music when I did. Also if it's a "Sonic Youth" enterprise, it likely (IDK/IDC) cuts out Kim Gordon.

If you care to explain, I'd be grateful.
I'm in a similar situation with Steve Albini after reading weird things about him. Not enough time or energy to verify though.

Albini has spoken at length about his old stupid shitty edgelord past, and by all accounts grew from it as a person. That's about all I can ask for. I don't have idols, but I respect that. There are tons of unverified rumours (extreme ones) about him that I ignore because they are just that.

Just my reaction to Kim Gordon's memoir followed by Thurston Moore's memoir: she describes him as hiding behind whatever he thinks is cool, and his memoir essentially hides behind whatever he thinks is cool. He name drops a lot of interesting artists--really, the book could be a great playlist and save everybody some time & effort--but IMHO it comes across as humble-bragging layered on preciousness. Their 80s records felt original and vital, but always with an awkward balance between noise and pop. I used to feel like it flipped somewhere around Daydream Nation, but the memoirs make it clear that they always were mostly Thurston Moore chasing cool.

Or as my wife put it, Kim Gordon's memoir spells out how Thurston Moore is an ass, and his memoir demonstrates that Thurston Moore is an ass.

I watched the reverb video. You'd think he would keep his first guitar or just plug things in on the video to confirm they work or not. Cash in now honey!

I don't want any of that gear.

I want the original set of guitars that was stolen from them, and still in their precious esoteric-tunings.

If I recall from last time, everything was in really comically poor condition

That's hilarious considering I just saw this headline this morning:

“Our guitars were so bad, we couldn’t make them work for us. Glenn came over to my apartment with six guitars, three under each arm, and threw them onto the futon”: Sonic Youth are now alternate tunings icons – but the band opted for them out of necessity

A friend of mine knew him. He didn’t have anything bad to say about him. The fact that he basically refused to get paid for In Utero is all I need to hear about him!

I was a big fan of Steve Albini - his music, productions, work ethics and his help for his community - until I read and saw disturbing things from his past. Now I'm in a pickle.
