The John Mayer Effect

Nothing really. It's just a personal taste thing.
But like PRS, he elicits a strong "love him or hate him" factor.

By all accounts, PRS are awesome guitars so I may be missing out on something great due to closed-mindedness.

PRS seems to have succeeded in watering down every classic guitar into a tame clone. They're the Switzerland of guitars: safe, clean, expensive and fishy as hell despite being landlocked.

I'd rather play a Teisco.

I'd rather play a Teisco too.

For me, guitars are supposed to have balls. Same with rock 'n roll. If it's too sanitized, I'm not feeling it.

I reacted similarly to The Parker Fly guitar that came out in the 90s.
Supposed to be excellent with its carbon-fiber fretboard, piezo pickups, and all that.
I'm sure it's amazing. But I don't wanna be caught playing one. :p

I actually have a Teisco or rather the same guitar Jon Spencer uses, though mine still has the whole headstock. Original gold foils that never sound clean :)

After listening or attempting to listen to some of the stuff in the "What are You Listening to Now " thread, I'm pretty secure in what I like, and have much better comprehension of why my parents didn't like or understand the music I listened to!

It's probably every week I see chatter about some pedal that doesn't seem interesting to me before I realize it's a John Mayer thing

When i saw the thread title, i assumed we'd be talking about this thing …
