I love Orange amps. I love FET-based overdrive pedals. What could possibly go wrong?

Things. Things could go wrong. A dud 2N5089 and a piece of hookup wire that just gave up. Bizarre.

After vanquishing those problems, the build was smooth. I lightly toasted a couple of film caps adjacent to the aforementioned 2N5089. Adds a nice smoky timbre to the tone. 👀

And WHAT tone. Good grief, @Chuck D. Bones - this is a phenomenal pedal. It covers the full range of a preamp from clean to grit to heavy overdrive and has a very useful eq section. Step on the juice switch and crank it up and you will grin ear to ear.

I used PF5102 JFETs and all component values per the bom. Straightforward build, awesome tone,

Build one. Ya’ll do need one more dirt pedal.

A lil shine on this one:

Tayda have those things

Im gonna try them on my next pcb
AliExpress as well. Sometimes I flip the red and black around due to clearance. Just push forward on the wire, take a small flat blade screwdriver and depress the brass tab on the side of the connector, then do a Dennis Rodman and pull out.
Once freed, bend the tab back up some before inserting in the opposing hole.

I think David is on pedal sabbatical but I bet he wouldnvery much recommend it.

I got a kit like this https://www.amazon.com/570PCS-2-54m...15&mcid=79d7cacd5d093c809e130d4b3371573f&th=1 for working on my 3d printer which takes the same connectors. You need crimpers like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089LW7MWT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 also.

I did my Thermonic build using these. They are honestly kind of a pain and I never used them again. https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/thermonic-distortion.19382/ if you are wanting to quick connect the DC so you can take the pedal in and out without desoldering the DC there are DC jacks with the nut on the outside which I will be buying soon at the recomendation of FeralFeline.

I like the idea of the pre wired tayda connectors... then get a PCB mount male connector, strip the wires on the female prewired harness and solder direct to the DC jack... well thats my theory anyway. Just waiting until I put my next order in to try. Should hopefully be easier than terminating and crimping my own connectors.

Hello there @Laundryroom David! I’m going through the threads looking for some feedback on the viceroy. I noticed you have the clips/plugs for the DC jack. Where did you source those? Would you recommend this build?
FYI, I'm still in the process of troubleshooting my build so there's a chance I messed something up, but I used MMBF4393's for the JFET's and it could be that at least that substitute is not going to work. Most build reports seem to use PF5102, so I suggest going with those if possible.

It's all about getting the right Vp. JFET pedals are NOT plug-n-play. check the drain voltages on Q1 & Q2. you might have to fiddle R4 and/or R12.
