    Let's review footswitches.

Footswitches. They're our main interface with the pedal. Their only job? To switch shit. But you can easily drop a lot of coin on these little fuckers. Soldering temps, lifecycle, feel, build quality. Sometimes you want something nice for a special project. Sometimes you need a daily...

    Fixing up an Ibanez TK999HT

I've got this pedal on my bench right now. Picked it up cheap because it was broken. Someone clearly used the wrong power supply on this thing at some point: there's a little step-up, dual voltage transformer in there, and the primary reads as a short. Like...more of a short than would be...

    Game over man, game over

So, I didn't sleep last night and figured in my infinite wisdom that this would be a great day to explore a circuit that I wanted to fuck around with a little. I've been curious as to the HT8950'S potential as a voice changer on...you know...voice. The good news is that I was able to get the...

Deadend FX Cosmo King Wah + Ringmod

Man. I had forgotten what this much offboard wiring was like. So this was an older, USA-made wah enclosure. But...whoever used it last had painted it in a shoddy two tone hammertone finish. Blech. So...I decided to give painting it with rattle cans a shot. The result? Man - I don't have...

    AMB M3 + Sigma 11 headphone amplifier...

This one turned into one hell of a time sink. Mostly because I've made my setup pretty efficient for stompboxes, but not so much for larger format stuffs. Lots of considerations here...the sigma 11 is a linear regulated power supply. In order to share input ground with the earth ground I had...

    Let's mod a DS-2 for RELAY bypass...

WHELP! I'm somewhat shocked and amazed, but I got this thing to work on the first attempt. So...what did I do... I got this DS-2 off eBay in "for parts" condition. Iffy foot switch, the dude said. Makes sense. They go out. I was looking for a DS-1 to mod...but this looked interesting. As...

    HAARP

Well...after a few issues with my first attempt on this pedal (bad rotary switch, probably overheated the FV-1) I decided to rebuild. The first suffered from crackly static after initial attack...but it sounded great otherwise This time I wanted to add an intelligent relay board in order to...

    Polymer caps. Discuss.

Decided to look into these cause I keep seeing them in commercial pedals... As a replacement for aluminum electrolytics: PROS: SUPER low ESR, much longer shelf-life than similar electros. Solid electrolyte, no potential for drying out. Good at handling ripple, Relatively compact too...

    HAARP: intermittent static & noise

Just put together this build. Everything works as it should, but I'm experiencing something strange with it... Play a note, boom. Lovely arpeggios and wild stuff...but also intermittent static. It'll die out as the note sustains, but it sounds like crinkling a plastic bag in like 3-4 pulses...

    Tube driver, sample reducer, RNGD

Tube driver, awesome. Really happy with this one. A TH customs board, two sintered bronze filters on the bottom, lots of chemical smudging and purposeful dings and scratches. Sounds like, great. Really. Love it. RNGD. Effects layouts. Still waiting for the knobs to come in to finish...

    Multiwave mega, anyone?

From parasit studio... Gonna have some fun digging into this one. Was having trouble getting the threshold LED to light...I had to repair a trace on C15, my first attempt didn't quite take. Got er working now. This one was...woof. Tight. Still gotta figure out the supports for the OLED...

Designing for a microphone vs guitar input...

Just some questions... I've been trying to wrap my head around input impedance, but the concept is still pretty abstract and fuzzy to me. So let's look at an example...schematics at the bottom... The Roboto, from pedal PCB, has a buffer section before the input of of the HT8950. DC blocking...

    The superheterodyne...nah. Bastard Code.

Why Bastard code? *Shrugs* This solves a problem I had with the EQD version: instead of dialing to a number 1-8, and glancing at their table, why not just put the friggin harmony label directly on the knobs? Seriously. Pictures:

The ADD FUZZ: I might have forgotten something in there.

Just built a Boss Hyper Fuzz clone, using Aion's excellent Hypercube fuzz stacked PCB. I'm also using PedalPCB's in/out/power board...although with a little twist. Im not crazy about board-mounted DC jacks most of the time...three solder joints and a typically flimsy connector...no anchor...

VIIB build: The Kung-Fu Killer Cat...

Nice pedal... I was able to scrounge up the service notes online: pin 4 on the clock gets set to 120Khz: BBD bias set by feeding the input with a 200hz signal, checking between 0 and 2.5V, reading at the output jack. Adjusted in 10uS and 20uS until I got a nice, even waveform on both sides...

Rude Awakening, unpleasant surprise, calamity fuzz

This one took a fair amount of tweaking to get right. I selected the lowest IDSS values I could find in a batch of about 20 authentic original J201s...and holy what the hell oh my god I love this thing. It just sounds so....*broken*. Just...I love it when I come across a pedal that truly does...

    STICKMAN'S LETS LEARN CNC THREAD

Alternate thread titles: CNC for the barely conscious I'm afraid of CAD WATCH ME MAKE STICK FIGURES IN ALUMINUM AND ZINC GUYZ First things first: I picked up a desktop 3018 CNC mill/router. I picked it up for 3 bills on amazon: This thing is extremely limited in it's work area: no one's going...

Lead catching cutters!?!?!? Take my money

Just got me a pair of these. Cutting resistor leads on the bottom of your board? Treat safety glasses poorly and thus don't use them because scratches occluding your vision? You, like myself, may be a good candidate for spending 30ish bucks on a pair of exquisitely crafted cutters from...

    Robot, Roboto, Mr. Robot

Got this one soldered and built...haven't done a plug in test yet...its like 3am here. Final pics to come...anybody know what the trimpot does? Or how to set it? I'm a much bigger fan of the whole "set to measurement" than "set by ear" thing. I do the same thing with cooking...I wanna...

    Vero JFET matcher

This was a well spent afternoon. Taken from the attached: super simple build, takes up a few parts that I wouldn't want to use in a pedal build, and easy to throw in a drawer when not being used. Seems to work!
