Celebrated amp designer Howard Alexander Dumble passes away

He designed and built some great-sounding amps, and I'm sure he had a loving family that are mourning his passing and I wish them the best.

But crystal lattice.

not to diminish the solemnity of Mr. Dumble's passing and his formidable contributions. Dumble amps certainly seem to have more shimmer and high end, but are they really preserving fragile harmonics that get lost in solid state amps? or are they just voiced differently?

I joke about it, but obviously he built way better amps than I ever have. I believe he's a brilliant engineer with a great ear for tone that knew his stuff and just gave a bad interview that he never lived down.

He was really close to making sense, tubes produce higher levels of even-order harmonics, whereas solid-state devices produce higher levels of odd-order harmonics. Not specific to Dumble amps, but tubes in general.

I have no issues with Dumble whatsoever. I’ve never been into the Dumble sound (after all, I play a 1972 Acoustic 124), nor have I ever really listened to anyone who played one. However, I always thought that it was strange that you never hear about the Dumble owners who suck…just sayin. Sometimes tone is in the fingers…

youtube is full of dumble clone owners who suck ... I expect it's the diminishing results of making a copy with copy

Has anyone watched that entire video? If I recall right the playing wasn't very good and was very out there/

It seems I recall Dumble playing the "Just Got Paid" riff over and over while Henry Kaiser just made... noise....

Henry Kaiser reminds me of myself the first time I ever got a multi-effects unit.
